I was unsure if I should post this here or in general discussion, so I took a shot in the dark and decided here. I’ve finally came around to organizing all my music after a decade and I’m trying to make it as clean as possible and am looking for suggestions.

Right now what I do is I name all albums related to the same game as the game series title. So that they’ll be grouped together in winamp. After that I give each album a unique album title, generally what it’s called on the casing with the catalog number at the end. I don’t really know if this is ideal or not though.

As for the folders where I store everything, everything just has their own folder through into the same directory with the album title and catalog number.

I took some pictures to show examples of what I mean. First my winamp and then folder structure.

It follows that chain.

And for folder structure, I generally just title each folder like so.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to put this in, and if it’s the wrong one could a mod please move it.

And so guys, I’m wondering, how do you guys organize all your massive collections? And do you have any suggestions for someone at the beginning of organizing everything. I’m hoping to get it done right the first time so I don’t have to go back and redo it again.

Thanks!

I organize my mp3 folders the same way you do, except for a lot of miscellaneous tracks which I leave in the main folder. The thing that makes the biggest impact on my listening habits is that I sort my main Music folder by ‘date created’. That way, the newest downloads are convenient to find for editing metadata and such.

To be honest, my music folder has been sliding into disarray for years. I’ve been meaning to clean it up, but as time passes, the task becomes more and more daunting. My hypocritical suggestion to you is to stay on top of it.
