Neil Baldwin kills on Hero Quest. Seriously, all his stuff his far above your average NES fare, but Hero Quest is just completely mind-blowing. There are enough harmonious, cascading rhythms here to leave even the most chip-acquainted listener slack-jawed, and the depth of the bass is just mesmerizing sometimes. Neil has been kind enough to provide his entire ‘discography’ of sorts in the form of Duty Cycle Generator (http://dutycyclegenerator.com/), but these are only in mp3. Although Hero Quest’s nsf only has 3 tracks (and 2 SFX tracks), it’s really best to treat this like an EP more than an album. All 3 songs are excellent, but I especially recommend BGM and Final Track.

Neil Baldwin – BGM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naSUlDfO2d8)

Neil Baldwin – Final Track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZrRisstvGk)

Hero Quest may have never been released, but its music well-deserves a wider audience. It’s an excellent use of the NES’ sound capabilities while being interesting and well-aged music in its own right, and I (and hopefully many other chiptune enthusiasts) would appreciate a clean FLAC rip of any kind (vgm/line-out). Thank you so much 😀 😀 😀

If I’m going to bump for interest, I might as well provide relevant content! Here’s a photo of the prototype cart this was all discovered on.

Gamester81 is a pretty straight reviewer and definitely knows his stuff, so its cool hearing his opinion on the game (and he shows off a repro too).

YouTube link because for whatever reason I can’t figure out embedding. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbjZOveCRro)
