Guys, I’m looking for a standalone player for Lossless playback on hi-fi speakers.
I have a pair of decent speakers Solo7c (http://www.microlab.com/?r=Stereosystemen&st=full&id=225) from Microlab.
The idea is to buy a device to connect to my speakers which would be a standalone music player that either has an internal memory, upgradable by sd/microsd or has a usb port for external hdd’s and flashdrives and very imporantly has the support for as many different lossless audio formats that circle the net at the moment (flac, alac, monkey, tta, wav etc)
I’m looking for audio quality and clarity and interface/design simplicity if possible.
I was thinking of spending about 100euro/$130 maximum but perhaps I would be willing to spend more if the product deserves it.

I hope I haven’t over-complicated my post 🙂 , thanks for reading and please help!

After some googling I found out that most people prefer FiiO X3 or X5. Anyone with some experience with this player who would like to share an opinion? FiiO X3 sells at minimum of $200 if lucky, so that would be a maximum limit for me compared to X5 which sells for about 400, way out of my budget.
I’d sure like to see some similar products and compare though.

Don’t forget the newest Fiio X1 – I think it’s around $100. Don’t have any experience with them though, sorry. Thought about getting one but decided to just stick with a Sansa Clip Zip.

Hey artcon, thanks for the reply and letting me know about FiiO X1, it certainly fits my price range and what I’m looking for.
My follow up question would be if I need an amplifier of some kind when using line-out from that type of player before connecting to my speakers? These are the specs on the integrated speakers amp:

Output power, RMS ——— 110 Watt
Power distribution, Watt ————- 55 Watt x 2
Harmonic distortion ———– < 0.3% 1 W 1 kHz
Frequency response ————–55 Hz – 20 kHz
Signal/Noise ratio, dB ———- > 85 dB
Separation, dB ———— > 55 dB
Input sensitivity, mV ———— 440 mV
Nominal impedance, ohm ———– 4 ohm
