Thanks RFabry for this Dutoit/Holst post. I’ve also been looking for Dutoit’s 1990 recording of Respighi’s Roman Trilogy which I have read is one of the best.

The Dutoit version is indeed one of the best of the very many versions of The Planets available. Personally, I prefer the more "rumbustious" recording by John Eliot Gardiner on Deutsche Grammophon, but that’s a matter of taste. I also find Bernard Herrmann’s old DECCA version from 1972, with its verrrrrrry broad tempi, quite intriguing.

Agreed that this is a very strong rendition of this most famous work, so thanks for the share.

Do you mean the 1983 recording? If so I have it.

El Cid, I think it is the 1983 recording I am looking for and it is detailed here Amazon.com: Respighi: The Pines of Rome; The Fountains of Rome; Roman Festivals: Music (http://www.amazon.com/Respighi-Pines-Fountains-Roman-Festivals/dp/B0000041OT) with glowing reviews and I, for one, would be thrilled if you could post it here. Thanks.

Just listening to Ducoit’s Planets – It’s the best version of this music I’ve ever heared.
Thanks, RFabri

I think you should also change the name of the conductor to "Dutoit" in the first post, and ask some moderator to change it in the title, too. 😉

I just saw him conducting live at the RAH a week ago, I can assure you that his name is Charles Dutoit.
