These things can be relieving, or a pain in the ass. Even though I own everything with Grace Jones (studio albums, singles, LPs, 12" and 7" singles, compilations) I still want one concise package with all of her hits gathered. There hasn’t been a single compilation that’s managed to compile a proper compilation (always omissing one or two of her biggest) by her so far, and I’d like to have one I can take with me when I travel.
Greatest Hits are almost always a fuck-over, leaving off hits to protect the artist’s back catalogue. What do you think about Greatest Hits compilations?

You’re right, they usually are bad. The only good ones in my experience are Alice In Chains Greatest Hits and Black Sabbath’s We Sold Our Soul For Rock ‘N Roll.

I don’t really like greatest hits albums but enon’s is pretty cool.

Greatest Hits are horrible cliches that artists use as a crutch to fulfill record contracts faster with minimal effort, and if it’s not them it’s pressure from their distributor. Needless to say, I generally don’t like them, especially when an artist (such as Megadeth) has fucking 10 million of them when they don’t even have enough genuine "hits" to fill one CD.
Also if you have someone’s entire discography, why do you need a collection of the same songs you already own?

They’re good for when you don’t want to bother with an entire discography though.

I don’t know about you, but I’d love to have one concise disc I can take with me when I travel.

Isn’t that what iPods are for?
