I’m wondering, it seems to be some kind of unwritten rule here, but why does liking any character from VII, VIII, or X make you a fankid, while the characters of IX (and for that matter, VI) are immune to this stigma? It’s likely that even questioning this principle will land me a fankid label, but I’m still posting it anyway. So, explain and discuss.

Because most people that like Final Fantasy 7 and 8 freak out about it and act like kids( fankids ).

It’s because those people that label other people as fankids like the "classic" Final Fantasy fantasy setting, and mostly anything other than this is deemed stupid.

Most people that view VII/VIII as the best FF, or sometimes best game period, often have really retarded reasons for their opinions. I very few issues with most people who like X though.

I’m thinking that it’s partly because those games are so overrated (not bad, just overrated), and, well, partly because there are alot of fanboy/girls for those games.

In my opinion, if you like a game so much that you scream like an idiot when someone dares to criticize it in the slightest way, you are a fankid. And unfortuntly, VII, VIII, and X have a lot of those.

I think it’s all on opinion. I like FFVIII the best because I can relate to the main character (I was kinda the outcast when this game came out myself) and I thought the storyline was easy enough to follow. Also the setting and the music were major points of why I like it so much. I’ve always been into those futuristic kinds of things.

That’s why! You glorify something simply because it’s cool. You know why in the back of your mind, but being able to articulate why it’s cool and essentially understanding it’s true nature would make you not just a fankid but a fankid with respect, not just ogling behaviour, because you can be both romantic and sophisticated, although sometimes it’s widely accepted as being gay. Now somehow I think people can get away with treating Megaman this way, but I haven’t run into any fankid/fankid-bashing issues with that game either.

Hey dude, your sig is a spoiler.

Just kiddin, its cool to see someone else who appears to have a fondness for LoD. Rose was one of the coolest "RPG" characters to date.
