I’ve been reading about this in various guides, but I seem to be getting conflicting information. I read that you can steal the Cursed Ring from Veteran or Didalos and then if you fight 255 battles with it, you get the Paladin Ring. However, some guides say that this is bogus and that it can never be uncursed, and others claim that it’s only certain versions.

So what I need to know – is it possible to uncurse it on the Anthology (Playstation) version and if so, is it worth it?

It is possible on both super nintendo version and playstation version. and it is worth it because it also allows you to learn ultima magic.

Yeah, and so do 50 million other things. Anything else particularly exciting about it?

Edit: Are you sure? I found this in an FAQ that strongly seems to suggest it’s not real:

PALADIN RING
——————————————————————————-
Rumor ~ Much like the Cursed Shld, the Cursed Ring can uncurse into the
"Paladin Ring". You must have the Cursed Ring equipped and fight
and win 255 consecutive battles. After the last battle, the Ring
will uncurse and give the the godlike "Paladin Ring". Depending
on who is currently spreading this tired rumor, the "Paladin Ring"
has different statistics and special characteristics, ranging from
invincibility to auto-Life3 to raising all stats by incredible
amounts.
Support ~ The Cursed Shield uncurses.
Disprove ~ There are only 255 slots in the Item screen and 255 items found in
the game, which leaves no place for the "Paladin Ring".

I’ve never heard of the cursed ring/paladin ring, and because I’ve never heard of it it must not exist.

Besides why would they put two items in the game where you need to fight 255 battles to uncurse them?

The shield exists, the ring does not.

there is such ring -_- too bad i didn’t play on emulator so i can’t show you screenshots. although i didn’t really try it on playstation version, my friend did and he said there is paladin ring so that’s why i said works on playstation version as well. well i have super nintendo FF6 save file it worked there 🙂

It’s okay. I can’t seem to steal any Cursed Rings off Didalos or Veterans anyway, so never mind.

Durendal – as far as I know, the Cursed Ring does exist. If not the Didalos or Veterans, I did read that you can get it by wagering the Cursed Shiled in the Colliseum.

Arcadius – if the Paladin Ring is real, what does it do besides give you Ultima?

it had ultima and magic absorb.

Hmm. Maybe if I play through the game again, I’ll try to chase this down. I’ve been chasing down another rumor in my current playthrough, although so far it seems to be definitely false. (Still need to do a bit more testing.)
