There is a Final Fantasy Chronicles disc on the PS1 that has both IV and Chrono Trigger on it.

Is there a game on the PS that has both V and VI in one? If so, what is it called?

Nevermind. I found it.
It’s called Anthology ^^

Only in the US though.

The European version of ‘FF Anthology’ featured FFIV and FFV – FFVI was instead released on the PSX/PS1 as a separate title that included a playable demo of FFX for the PS2. It also suffered from being horribly letter-boxed too due to a poor NTSC/PAL colour conversion. But I digress…

Geez Europe gets shafted on everything ever.

Not to mention Europe missed out on the GBA releases of FFV and VI too, although it’s pretty easy to import the US versions.

Having said that though, we did get a harder version of FFX (which even included a bonus making of DVD), and a special collector’s edition of FFVIII that’s almost impossible to find now, so it’s not all doom and gloom when it comes to European Square Enix releases.

Oh ic. You guys are always last to get the games too which I never understood.

That’s because of the necessity to translate games released in Europe into the two other major European languages besides English – French and German. Because RPGs are traditionally very text heavy, most companies are reluctant to do so due to the high cost of translation, unless they are guaranteed to get some return from the investment. Hence, most European localization firms just skip releasing most RPGs entirely.

Plus, besides translation, there is also that niggly problem of having to convert the game’s colour signal from the Japanese/US NTSC standard to PAL (the TV colour system used in Europe/the UK/Australia etc), which is time consuming and expensive. Hand held and PC games however are exempt from this.

That, and as far as marketing surveys are concerned, European gamers usually prefer sports and racing games over RPGs so that’s another nail in the coffin as far as European releases are concerned. It sucks, but there’s not much you can do except import the US releases when a game is passed up in PAL territories.

Never thought of it in that way with all the different languages over there, makes sense with a text heavy game yes.
