Hi, I just got my Final Fantasy XIII Collector’s guide in the mail.
I was wondering if I should open it and use it, or leave it in the packaging.

I really want to use the guide for the game, but I could always just go and get a non collector’s version of the guide to use.

I guess I just want to know if the value will change if it has been opened. I like to collect Final fantasy stuff.

thanks

Personally I wait til I’ve played the game first without a guide/hints/etc, THEN when I play the second time I use it.

Value wise, I’m not sure if it’ll be worth much tbh. I’ve got a second guide for FFVIII, and that’s not worth much more than what I bought it for. Only guide I have, which I was offered 1000$AUSD for (It was at a anime convention, and I seriously doubted the offer from the person in question. He was dressed up as Rufus Shinra, so that also gave me the idea he was a FFVII fanboy/fanatic/idiot), was :

The Completely Unauthorized Final Fantasy VII Ultimate Guide

Author: Casey Loe
Company: Versus Books (sadly now defunct)
Publisher: Empire 21 Publishing, Inc.
Publication Date: 1997
MSRP: $9.99 / C$12.99 (Cost me 16.95$AUSD at the time of purchase)
UPC: 073361649997
Media: Paperback
Pages: 142 pages
Notes: Free poster

In general though, most guide books don’t really sell for much, unless to the abovementioned diehard fanatics, and even then it’s questionable.

there are 210,000 of the limited guides. Will be a long while until they are worth anything (if ever) unless your book number is 1 that is. Mine is 42,000 ish 🙁

I think mine is 91,189 os something.

Anywho, I agree that it may not gain much value, but you never know.

The Limited Collectors ed. W/Game DOES look pretty cool though. I wonder exactly how limited it is.

It only has one print run so only 210000.

Isn’t there limited collector edition w/ hardbound guide, game (ps3) and soundtrack?

I thought that was not available in US.

I have the collectors edition of the game which comes with the soundtrack and I bought the guide seperately.

If you preorder FFXIII for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 in Australia from any EB Games you get the following:

* FINAL FANTASY XIII Original Sound Selection: Soundtrack CD including a selection of music tracks from the game that are especially chosen for this Limited Collector’s Edition by composer Masashi Hamauzu. The CD is presented inside a slipcase featuring artwork from FINAL FANTASY XIII, and also liner notes that are written by the composer.
* The World of FINAL FANTASY XIII: Hardback book featuring character artwork, CG rendered artwork and environments from across the game production.
* Exclusive Art Prints: 3 highly collectable art prints showing artwork of the Eidolons, powerful summoned allies of the lead playable characters in FINAL FANTASY XIII
* Unique ‘Brand of the l’Cie’ decal: Collectible decal featuring this most iconic symbol from the game storyline

That’s the Limited Collector’s Edition.

Then there’s the standard hint book and Collector’s Edition hint book:

Collector’s Edition:

* 100% complete guide to Final Fantasy XIII
* Every secret, every side-quest, every mini-game, every Trophy revealed and explained in a dedicated Extras chapter
* Detailed walk through charts the most rewarding path through this epic adventure
* Strategy & Analysis chapter exposes hidden mechanics, advanced battle tactics and techniques for obtaining optional rewards
* All-encompassing Inventory and Bestiary chapters feature exhaustive lists and tables covering all enemies, weapons, accessories, items, components and shops
* Bears all the hallmarks of a Piggyback guide, including annotated maps, hi-res screenshots and a wealth of exclusive, official artwork
* Carefully designed to avoid unnecessary story spoilers

Only difference that I can see from the images on EB Games (http://www.ebgames.com.au) Australian website, the standard edition is your typical guide book, in style to the standard FFXII and FFX, FFX-2 guide books. The Collector’s Edition one, looks like it’s a hard covered one. Wonder if it’ll be like the leather bound ‘grimoire’ style of the limited edition guide book for FFXII…
