Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the version of Rabanastre Downtown on the FFXII soundtrack is different from the in-game version, and if so, can anyone point me toward a link to the in-game version of the song?

You can find the in-game version HERE (http://oddigytitanium.com/psf/psfpsf2/Final%20Fantasy%20XII.rar) as a psf2 set, well, of the entire game anyway. You can open the file with winamp (get the chipamp plugin set (http://www.chipamp.org/download/) ) or foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org/) (use foo_psf plugin (http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_psf) .)

You basically have the percussion/bass line in the opening, then with the upper (woodwind? ) part, then with the bassoon solo, then the hook, then a transition back to the beginning of the loop. I don’t know if it’s different in the OST version, but I doubt it.

How can you convert psf2 to mp3 do you know.

Oh i forgot about that, sorry…

See my first reply above and get foobar and foo_psf

You also need the Lame mp3 encoder, which you can get here (http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm) Put "lame.exe" and "lame_enc.dll" into the "components" folder of wherever you installed foobar.

Just open the entire psf2 set in foobar, which you can either do in foobar itself or just drag the files onto the foobar icon. Select all the files you want to convert,right-click and select convert, and click "…" Under the "Output Format" select MP3(Lame). I believe the default option is 192kbs VBR (fast) which should work fine. Make sure you specify where you want it to put the files. That’s it! I LOVE foobar for converting. You can choose the format for file names if you want. I just use "%title%" but you could do "%artist% %title%" or "%album% %title."

I think you can also encode FLAC or whatever else it shows there, or get a plugin that will do it. It should be easy to find whatever other plugins you need. Let me know if that doesn’t work for some reason.

I figuered out what the difference is. At about 45 seconds into the song, an acoustic guitar section plays. It is substantially less pronounced in the soundtrack version than it was in the game, but it’s there if you listen really carefully. So technically, there is no difference in terms of instrumentation, but there is in terms of volume of certain instruments.
