FF8 Trailer Music – Help Indentify Please!

Ok so I’ve posted this question here before and didn’t get the right answer so I thought I’d try this again.

Take a look at this Final Fantasy VIII Demo Trailer:

There’s this beautiful piece of music at the very end of the trailer just as Squall leaps to the boat and we see it sail off to the sea.

Do you mean the harp variation on the Prelude starting at 1:57?

YES! Exactly!

Well, what I can tell you is that this version of the prelude hasn’t been released on any of the official albums. The use of vocals is similar to the FFXII version, but the chord changes here are different.

So unless this is an OCRemix that I’m not familiar with, my best guess is that this is an early, abandoned variation of the prelude that was written for the FFVIII soundtrack. Since there is a different (non-vocal) variation that appears at the end of the "Ending Theme" on the FFVIII OST, it might be the case that Uematsu was playing around with ways of changing the "Prelude" and came up with several ideas, this one included, that he or the game developers weren’t satisfied with and cut from the final soundtrack.

In other words, I think the version we hear in this video may be the only available snippet of this piece of music. That’s my best guess.

Um… It might be the prelude song in the game over screen? From what I can tell, it sounds like this (listen all the way to the end):

it’s obviously the prelude (at the end). but a version that only appears in those trailers.

Wow I haven’t seen that trailer in since forever… ahhh memories… Lol, yeah the majority of that demo video’s music are snippets of other themes from what I can tell. Think of it like an amalgamation of some of Nobuo Uematsu’s works rolled into one just for this vid since it was showing some cutscene and gameplay footage along with a release date for the game.

What do you know, it is in there! It’s titled "Visions of Dollet" in this set. Unfortunately only 128 kbps, but much nicer sound than the YouTube video. If I could find an ISO of the disc I’d rip it myself in better quality. But I don’t mean to seem ungrateful. Thanks for this pack. It has a few more things I hadn’t heard before in it too.
