Asside from the response: "Just cast spells", are there any tips for leveling magic faster in ff2?

Magic spell levels increases every time you issue to command to cast, rather than every time you actually cast. Therefore when in battle if you have firion cast fire (for example) than after focus moves to maria press "circle" to cancel back to firion and re-case fire. This will count as 2 uses of the spell. Rinse-repeat 100 times and you’ll level it up after the current battle. Each spell can only go up once per battle though…

Works with weapon levels too by attacking and canceling – and if you duel wield the weapon you are trying to level it goes up twice as fast meaning you only have to attack and cancel 50 times rather than 100.

On and of course you can never use this "cheat" on party memebers in "last position" because as soon as you issue them an order the battle starts…

BTW Marc Ive just seen your other post about War Mec in FF1…did you ever find him?

When I played FF1 I had real probelms getting him to spawn too, so i went of and cleared my way through Chaos getting the good equipment, unlocking the rest of bestiary etc, and leveling up to about level 45 or so. Then before beating the end boss I went back to the floor where he spawns in the water dungeon (tiamats boss floor) and literally took 2 steps into the floor and he appeared.

It may have been coincidence but I had to wonder if the game increased the rarity of the spawn if you were too weak to face im. Even at level 45 (of 50)he creamed my two Wizards before my Knight and Master were able to lay him low…

Umm… never found war mec, iron golem (or whatever it was that was also rare as heck) and a good number of the monsters from the extra dungeons. I got to level 97 and just got bored and beat the game. I figure after I beat two and the soul of rebirth game, I’ll probably go back to FFI and go monster hunting. I’ve got a lot of breaks at school… heh.
