Has anyone else had a problem in FF1 in which you encounter the same creature(s) every step you take, for many, many steps? It happens to me every time im in a dungeon at least once, usually with a moderately powerful enemy/ enemy set.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t a glitch. I know the Hall of Giants is in the Earth Cave, and you’re supposed to encounter Giants there. I think it’s just because Square didn’t quite have the whole randomization thing down yet if it’s happening anywhere else. I’ve had similar experiences, but my cartridge might be defective because the Eye never has successfully killed one of my characters.

As has been mentioned there is one dungeon where this is "supposed" to happen wtih "Hill Gigas" and its onl a looping section of corridor on the first floor of the Marsh Cave.

That said ive only played FF1 on the Origins PS1 disc and can’t speak for the NES version of the game…

I’m pretty sure this is just a randomization issue that Square worked out by the time it made Origins.

Well, im not sure, I know that there is a place where they do that on purpose, but it continues even after i leave the area, so I would constantly encounter creatures even if I was in the wrong environment.

Is this on the NES od PSone version of the game? Thats really strange I mean even if the game had glitched for some bizarre reason the effect shouldnt be persistant after a reboot. How very strange!

It was on NES, but I recently got Dawn of Souls, and the same problem persists. I have encountered Earth Elementals on the open ocean, every step I take.

Earth on open ocean? Are you telling the truth? Because there’s no reason why that would happen in DOS. If you’re not just kidding, I’m stumped.
