Favourite Final Fantasy Character Knockout Game

I’m going to do a massive knockout game to decide what the forums favourite FF character is of all time. But before I do that, I want to make this poll to ask, what will be the basis of this competition? I’ll start this over the weekend I think, depending on the poll results and its reception. 🙂

I will by default cover FF1 to FF10, and also include FF12 and FF13. What else do you want included, if any?

Tactics and Crystal Chronicles should be in, I think.

You should include Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. Even though they are MMO’s, they are part of the main FF game series, so SHOULD be included. I wouldn’t include the others, for the reason of them not being in the main series.

You should include everything because many of the extras either introduce new characters or extrapulate on the characterisation of those already existing within the main game series. In other words all sequels, prequels and extras (especially Dissidia/ Duodecim) should be added. Good of you to ask and good luck on your idea. I hope more people will get involved, it would be crap if nobody came.

Here are my thoughts. If you’re going to do it, include Final Fantasy XI, XIV, the sequels and prequels (FF7 and FF10), Tactics, and Crystal Chronicles. DON’T include Spirits Within or the related games (Kingdom Hearts, Vagrant Story, Ehrgeiz etc).

It’s a difficult one, I was just going to make my own decision but I thought if you guys complained it would be justified. So we can talk about this for the week and then next weekend I’ll start the game properly.

Personally? I just want prequels and sequels. I don’t know if there’s enough character development in the online games, and the spinoffs are exactly just that, spinoffs. But I know that isn’t the most popular opinion here! 🙂

Sequels and Prequels and spinoffs… no. They’re not part of the main series (I don’t care what anyone else says, I don’t recognize them as part of the main series.) while XI and XIV are.

The sequels and prequels were made for a reason. The same characters from the main series are also included in Dissidia/ Duodecim, Kindom Hearts, etc, so there shouldn’t be any problem with that. In fact the Online games seem to stray more from the FF theme then the spin offs do.

It is your thread so do what you want with it. Take the opinions into account (popular or not) but don’t let them overrule what you want to do. On the whole I agree with your idea.

Each FF game is complete as is, and didn’t need sequel/prequel. Dissidia/Duodecim is a spinoff and is more or less a Fanfic made into a game (the same thing happened with Koei’s Warriors Orochi games), and imo, doesn’t apply as the characters in them are already in use in their own game (with the exception of Chaos and Cosmos). Kingdom Hearts is a damn abomination, and the less said of that series, the better. The Online games do keep the core elements from earlier FF games and follow along their own original story.

I’m surprised how many people want the Tactics series. It’s interesting how this poll has unfolded.

This is immaterial. This thread has got to do with the characters not with the individual games themselves. All the main series should be included (even the online titles- which is what I did say originally) as well as spinoffs like Dissidia/ Duodecim because they add new insight into existing characters. For example, Kain in FFIV doesn’t feature that much after a point in the game which is disappoint for those who like him. He is greatly developed during the Duodecim story. If we excluded Duodecim the reasons for liking Kain would be greatly reduced. I don’t see a reason why this should happen.

Dissidia/Duodecim is a spinoff… a alternate reality, where the characters have their minds wiped at the end of each war and left with fragments. It was revealed in Dissidia that Sephiroth killed himself, wherein he kept his memories as he was dead when the others had their minds wiped.

Like I said before, the characters in Dissidia/Duodecim already appear in the mainstream FF games, so to include them in this would serve little point as they already have their stories revealed. The Kain in Duodecim, while still the Kain from FFIV, can be considered a alternate Kain and not mainstream, as Dissidia can be considered a alternate reality (like the new Star Trek movie).

Still…. it’s up to JohnnyMercyside to decide what he wants to include, which by the other thread he’s created, he’s decided on what games he’s including (all 14 major Final Fantasy games, and Final Fantasy tactics).

Yeah this thread can be locked now, the choices are FF1 – FF14 and FF Tactics. 🙂
