Hello. What is a good program for ripping a score off a DVD?

DVD decrypter

The soundtrack is usually in AC-3 format. For that you’ll also need Besweet to convert from ac3 to wav.

Also note, that if you’re ripping a PAL disc as opposed to a NTSC disc, you may want to resample the audio down by 4%.

I never even understood how to use besweet, it wouldn’t even open for me. I use DVD Audio Extractor to extract seperate channels, you don’t even have to rip the dvd to your HD for that.

Foobar2000 will play the AC3 audio and convert it to whatever you want.

Both Besweet and DVD Decrypter haven’t been updated in almost a decade and are generally recognised to be obsolete software. DVD Decrypter has problems with many newer DVDs due to the introduction of more complex DRM processes that didn’t exist when it was written.

DVDFab is excellent. The free version should be able to extract audio tracks for you. If not, rip the whole disc with DVDFab (the free version DEFINITELY does that) and extract the tracks with SmartRipper, then open the resulting AC3 in Foobar2000 for encoding, or further editing in the package of your choice.

I am trying to rip some scores off DVD movies without sound effects. Will Foobar 2000 do that or DVDFab

The music is combined with the speech and sound effects to form an ac-3 audio stream. On occasion, like with "Any Given Sunday" for example, as a bonus feature an additional audio stream is provided on the DVD which contains just the score. Even then you will find that the volume may rise and fall unexpectedly throughout.

BeSweet is a CLI (Command Line Interface) program.

You have to run it from a console window (aka "CMD").
There is a GUI for it, but you also need to install other filters/plugins/libraries as well.

DVDFab, free is a good option.

Another thing you can do is use AnyDVD (trial/payware) or DVDFab (free version) to decrypt the disc and then use eac3to to extract the AC3 track (track normalization will be removed to match audio levels for all other formats for encoding). Or simply use -demux (but this will extract the video as well).

eac3to is also a CLI but there are several GUI’s available and only 2 that are updated.

Another option with AnyDVD (or the Free version of DVDFab HD Decrypter) is to use PGCdemux to extract the AC3.

DVDFab HD Decrypter 9.0.6.0 (free version)

NOTE! The decryption, DVD to HDD and Blu-ray to HDD, is FREE, if you want more features then it’s a trialware. And it may take 1-6 months until it supports NEW DVD/Blu-ray releases.

PgcDemux 1.2.0.5 (NO LONGER DEVELOPED)

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PgcDemux

PgcDemux is no longer in development but it doesn’t need updates.
The DVD structure/format hasn’t changed; just the copy protection has changed.
PgcDemux requires the DVD to be already decrypted. :smrt:
