Is anyone besides me thrilled about the inexpensive anime DVD box sets we’ve been seeing lately? It’s given me the opportunity to catch up on several series that I missed

Aside from being priced affordably, these things also come with some pretty awesome extras occasionally. My Irresponsible Captain Tylor set came packed with extra stuff, like two bonus discs full of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff, a cd soundtrack, a novella set after the show, and a 64 page booklet with all kinds of neat info. Then again, the bare-bones sets tend to be priced so low that you can get an entire series for just barely more than a single disc of a new show.

Reveal the secrets of the most awesome box sets you own or have seen. What are you interested in and why? Seen a great bargain? Let us know!

No can do without knowing what you’re into. And then there’s no guarantee that I know anything about it if your tastes are different from mine. Just go look around and see what’s out there.

ADV’s thinpacks have been wonderful. There are so many series I’m tempted to pick up that I never would have purchased otherwise.

What websites are there that have these cheap anime collections?

Most online retailers who deal in anime should have them.

Also, Ndi, you’re right about those ADV thinpak sets. I never would have gotten around to buying Blue Seed and Rune Soldier if not for those.

You can get a lot of them at places like Best Buy, too. ADV has been releasing cheaper versions, called "thinpacks", of just about every series they have, and a lot of other companies have been doing something along those lines.

If only Geneon would release a Cardcaptor Sakura box set. ; ;

This will probably only happen after I cave and slowly buy the entire series.

Actually, Cardcaptor Sakura is coming out in two box sets, the first of which comes out early next month. The next one will be out in mid-november. MSRP on each is $99.98.

It’s so weird that that’s not listed on Amazon or the Geneon site yet. I found it on a couple legit sites though, so whee!

It looks like most places are charging $74.99 per box, which is pretty reasonable!
