Hey guys,

I just bought Dot Hack // Infection (Part One) today and I’m already surprised at this game in so many ways…

The strange ‘simulation’ of a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game without a internet connection must be the stand-out feature of this game. The fact that you ‘log in’, recruit party members, enter keywords that shape ‘the world’ that you want to enter, and characters having their own life outside the gaming realm is really cool and is very innovative for a Playstation2 title.

I found the graphics to be a bit dodgy at times. For example the backgrounds have a few clipping issues and the camera movements aren’t flowing. You cannot notice this often, but when you do, you can’t help but chuckle.

What I want to know is what all of you thought of this game?

And is it worth purchasing the other three parts?

After playing Infection for only an hour, part of me wants to rush out and buy Mutation (Part Two), while the other part wants me to give this game some more time to grow.

I really enjoyed the series, but I have to admit it isn’t for everyone. If you like MMORPGs, then it’s probably right up your alley. The games do reward you for the time you put into them, so don’t just jump straight into the next one. Exploring new places can get you some pretty cool new toys sometimes.

Be sure to watch the dvd, by the way. It may seem fairly unrelated, but by the end of the series, they tie in perfectly. And it’s even pretty darn good in its own right.

Yeah, beat each of the games in turn, because you get to carry your stats, items, etc. over to each game when you complete them. 😀

I enjoyed playing this game for a while…..but I kinda got bored because every single time u have to go in a similar dungeon and no where else.

I have all four of the .hack installments and I enjoyed all of them. Funny someone mentioned that MMORPG players would like this game, well I don’t like MMORPGs and I still liked this game. Although I agree that this game is’nt for everyone, if you don’t like doing the same things over and over again (like collecting Virus Cores) then you won’t like this game.

What is Quarantine like. Is it better than 3, because 3 was the best I’ve played, but haven’t played 4.

Quarntine is a good ending to all of the other installments IMO. It’s really hard though and you need alot of virus Cores to get to the dungeons before facing off against Cubia for the last time.
Also there are some plot twists like SPOILERS! (one of your companions being a phase )and all killing the other two phases

Oh yeah and the anime DVD has more bonuses like .dotHack//Gift, it’s really interesting.

I only said that MMORPG players should like it. I never said other people won’t like it.

But the beauty of the game is it’s a simulated MMORPG without the lag 😉

HAH! So you think!

It does slow down sometimes when you get into really heavy combat. Not as bad as lag, I suppose, but it’s still annoying.
