So….ever since I gave up WoW I have been spending countless hours playing emulators and ROMS / ISOs.

But there is one series of games that have captured my nostalgic eye even after FIFTEEN years after it’s original release…..This is of course the Donkey Kong Country games.

I am hooked yet again to these timeless gorgeous graphics that once were thought impossibly achievable by the SNES, a brilliant and genius soundtrack and convoluted and difficult platforming shenaniganary that rivals any platformer that came after it.

Jesus, no amount of words could describe how much I love these games. 😛

I would love to hear your thoughts on these games and I recommend getting back into them, not only to experience three fantastic games, but also to appreciate the gaming masterpiece that they are.

Which one is best? I’ve only played the 1st

The 1st is probably considered the best by most people because it was considered groundbreaking back in 1994.

I recommend playing the others though because they are all classics that are very addictive and fun.

Also if this thread has inspired anyone to start playing or downloading them, I’d love to hear where you’re up to and which levels you’re having difficulty with~

I’ve played 1 and 2. They were indeed fun times aplenty.

Good times! 🙂

Any ending where you get to uppercut the bad guy in the nuts is genius. That being said, DK is setting a bad example for Diddy. :notgood:

Actually they do have nuts. It’s hidden inside them and only comes out when it’s time. BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT!

I’ve finished all three just recently.

I am hooked yet again to these timeless gorgeous graphics that once were thought impossibly achievable by the SNES
I am not sure pre-rendered backgrounds were ever considered impossible for a SNES. They are pretty, though.

a brilliant and genius soundtrack
Yeah, they’re pretty good.

and convoluted and difficult platforming shenaniganary that rivals any platformer that came after it.
Not really. They’re actually insanely easy excluding 2-3 levels in each game.

The 1st is probably considered the best by most people because it was considered groundbreaking back in 1994.
DKC2 is generally considered the best; given that it is. Anyway, none of the games are really groundbreaking.

That’s not to say I don’t like them – they’re awesome and they’re normally what I go back to when I want a fix of nostlagia. Let’s not kid ourselves and say they’re groundbreaking, though.

Only complaint I have for each game is that they can be finished in just a couple of hours or less. Well DKC3 takes a while, but who cares anyway? The second half of that game is just awful.

All three DKC games are probably the best 2-D platform titles ever made. The GBA ports were also fun, with a bunch of nice additions but the graphics and music cannot beat the original on SNES. The third was a letdown though, I dunno what was Rare thinking when they decided to replace the original music for that lame soundtrack, I just couldn’t bear it and stopped playing it.

I think DKC2 is still my top favorite. I never fully beat DKC1 with the 101%. Notice how they added the extra one percent to each sequel completion. 2=102% and 3=103%… Hrm… Still love "Gang-plank Galleon" from DKC though. Baddest boss music from DKC series ever!
