So, I decided to give FFX-2 another try. I’m in the second chapter, and at the point where you enter the Thunder Plains. You have the option of doing a sidequest that doesn’t add any completion points. Since the game was starting to hold my interest, and I saw that I would receive a new garment grid, I decided to try it out.

The sidequest is calibrating the lightning towers. To jog your memory, there’s three calibration forms:

Rikku – Simple Calibration (hit buttons when they appear on screen)
Paine – Falling Calibration (3 buttons fall, one flashes mid-screen, press correct one)
Yuna – Memory Calibration (shows buttons in order, takes them off screen, enter them in order)

Anyway, according to the strategy guide, all you have to do is ATTEMPT to calibrate each tower, and you’ll recieve the Samurai’s Honor Garment Grid. But after I did that, I didn’t receive it!

Am I supposed to calibrate all towers perfectly?!

I think your guide is incorrect, I seem to recall that you need to:

A.) Attempt all towers
B.) Calibrate at least five of them perfectly

I could be wrong, but that was the requirement I remember. You know what, I’ll check it, hang on… Yeah, it’s five perfect. Really shouldn’t be too hard. Getting all ten of them perfect is absolute bitch, but getting just five shouldn’t be hard at all, especially since the memory towers are terribly easy.

Yeah, I went back and did just that. I actually found the information I needed on the main page of FFShrine, hehe. Maybe I misread my guide, but I swear it only said I had to attempt the calibrations.

Now I just gotta go back and perfectly calibrate Yuna’s last tower (not the secret one) so that I can get a ribbon in a future chapter. Don’t want to miss out on that fantastic, must-have accessory!

PS – Paine’s towers SUCK.

Ribbon as an accessory is near-useless in this game because it comes as an ability of its own on Mascot and there are generally other accessories that are far more useful. It’s also possible to get Ribbon in unlimited quantities, so you really don’t need the tower calibration for it, although go for it if you wanna.

Hmm, thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind. I clearly need to learn more about this game. 3 chapters in and stuff still seems new to me.

Agreed, but try calibrating Rikku’s tower no. 7 perfectly if you want real frustration 😛

Tower ten’s sort of a "hidden" tower — I’m pretty sure you have to try all the others first before it becomes available. And then you have to stay sort of close to the edge on the left on the same area as where 6-9 are and you can spot it.

I’m pretty sure you have to walk around the edge of the lake until a cut-scene starts. Beware, it is FUCKING INSANE!

It is Yuna’s, but you have to enter the codes in REVERSE order! For example,

X,X,O,T,O,S must be entered as,
S,O,T,O,X,X

Still hella easier than tower 7, though.

Agreed. Yet a bitch nontheless.

Tower 10 is pretty easy really. Just write the combinations down. :p

Yeah, that’s what I did. By far the easiest way of handling the problem. And that was really the one of those like it where I even felt the need to write it down. I was otherwise able to handle all the "memory" towers without any problem.
