Anyone here agree the defeat animations for player characters in this series have made a serious regression? In older Final Fantasy games, characters would look unconscious or dead after running out of health which made for a convincing Game Over – in more recent ones, they just fall to their knees (which would have only been a sign of ‘near defeat’ in the past) still supporting themselves and that’s it? Rather anticlimatic IMO, do main characters now have less will so that they give up once hurt enough to make them take a knee? LOL… especially disappointing when you see an otherwise awesomely badass chick like Lightning or Fang do it. Sure you could argue that you can just imagine they collapse fully after the screen fades out, but there’s really no reason not to animate them doing so. It looks even worse when a scenario like the one in this video occurs… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_XD2zwX5oc KNOCKED DOWN big time by the attack that brings HP down to zero, yet GETS UP only to fall back to one knee and then Game Over, pretty darn lame seeming haha.
