Hey guys, I don’t post much on the forums and don’t really use the site at all ever since MegaUplaod went down but I thought this might be a good place to post this. Recently I’ve gotten into stripping a game’s audio into the separate tracks or channels that make up the music. I used to just save these as MP3s to listen to as sort of alternate versions of the game music. Eventually I started toying around with adding some panning, reverb, distortion, leveling, etc., to make my own remixes. From this I’ve been able to come up with my own fake stereo versions of game soundtracks that were in mono originally. It’s pretty fun but I’d like to get some more feedback on my results. I have a few playlists on youtube:

Super Hang On (Sega Genesis)

This one was my first attempt so it’s kind of basic. I hadn’t figured out how to use panning envelopes so any placement I used was constant throughout the entire track. Might redo this one day.

Super Mario Land (Game Boy)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL45F0185B4368D376
A little more advanced one. I even started to map out my own drum patterns using the two samples instead of repeating the same, original rhythm.

I just started working on a new one and I made a soundcloud to upload my tracks as I work on them and explain the methods used.

So I was just trying to see if any of these sound decent to you guys since I couldn’t really think of any other game music forum to ask. Check them out and listen to a few, let me know what you think!

I do like these, specifically the SML tracks.

I am curious how you "strip" the audio tracks. I’d like to be able to do the same thing with some Genesis and SNES Music, and maybe even some Atari and SID stuff. I tried recording from the system mix but I could never sync the tracks properly… 🙁
