I seem to remember this thing needed to be worn for a certain number of battles and then it would become a great ring? Anyone know anything about this?

Something about equipping the ring and fighting 250 battles or so… Once done, you get a Paladin Shield (woot!). Equip a ribbon to negate negative status.

Not true — you’re thinking of FFVI’s Cursed Shield, which becomes the Paladin Shield after being equipped for 255 battles.

Final Fantasy IV does have a Cursed Ring item, but there’s no way to break the curse.

are you sure your not thinking of the hex ring in ffV>?

I liked that shield "quest". You get a negative effect, but later you find out that it’s not permanent and you actually gain something 🙂
I think it was an original thing and it’s stuff like this that make final fantasy games so great.

ive never heard anything about a cursed ring in ff4…but if there is one, its got to have good and bad shit, like in 5 and 6.

why would there be a bad item with all negative effects? (other than putting…and imp spear on gau-even if he’s an imp, he’s still weaker with the spear)

and who would wear it?

Well, according to the walkthrough I’m using, the cursed ring/hex ring item in FFV is permanently cursed – no way to break the curse. It suggests that one throws away the item.

FF4 Cursed Ring raised stats quite a bit (for that area of the game), but cursed the wearer. That’s about it.

Isn’t that pretty much what I said? I don’t see any reason for this thread to remain open and keep being revived. Closed.
