hi,

i’ve just got cat-nip, and it seems a little bit overpowered… especially when combined with happy-trigger….

are there other items which also provide such power? (for other classes?)

because now it seems that all i have to do is to keep yuna’s hp in the yellow level, and have him happy-trigger every enemy…

so is the idal combo a gunner+ 2x white-mage?

or to say it the other way:
what are the negative aspects of cat nip?
are some enemies ‘immune’ against it?

Well, cat-nip is great for the tough boss fights (like in the trials) and it is really a one of a kind deal. No other combo will give you such power (in a strickly objective manner).

As opposed to having two white mages, you might think about givng Yuna a first strike ability, which would eliminate most of the trouble associated with enemies attacking before your gunner.

Cat Nip is your basic big-time cheaty/not-cheaty accessory. It’s there if you basically just want to breeze your way through the bosses, but if you actually want to use real strategy, you’d probably best leave it alone. There really isn’t any "immunity" against it. It does 9999 per hit as long as the character is in critical, period. I’m not sure why you would want two white-mages because if you need to heal the killed gunner, you probably want to use a Phoenix Down, to keep them in critical. So why not just have the other two as Mascots or something else like a Dark Knight?

The other big-time power moves:

– CONGRATS! – Get a Lady Luck and start up Random Reels. Hit Pause and X and time it so that you get three 7s. Once you know where the 7s are, it’s really easy. CONGRATS! bribes the enemy and also gives you all the EXP, gil and items/accessories you would get normally for winning the battle. This works on all but a few monsters and bosses. It won’t work against any machina, Angra Mainyu, the final Via Infinito boss (although it will work on the battle immediately before that) and the final bosses.

– Finale – Guaranteed 99999 damage, so you long as you never escape from any battle. Available only by passing through all the gates on the "The End" Garment Grid. Only does 99999 if the character has never escaped from a battle, but it resets when you start New Game Plus.

P.S.: In the Japanese version of the game, you got Cat Nip by pushing Tobli into the Celsius elevator if you didn’t complete "Shave the Hypello" in Chapter 1, but that was nixed in the U.S. version.

I don’t think that it is too powerful. You may need it in really tight spot.

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">The only time I used Cat Nip was against Trema, and that’s simply because of the ridiculous amount of HP he had; that and the fact you have to beat Paragon every time beforehand which took forever without Cat Nip, especially as I didn’t have Break Damage Limit or Break HP Limit at the time. (I’ve got The End since then though). Oh yeah, and on floors 81-99 just to get the battles out of the way quickly; I was happy enough fighting them normally but that just saved time.

I prefer not to use it though, it does make it a bit too easy; but even then it’s not always a guaranteed victory, Trema still beat me a couple of times with it (normally because I came out of the Paragon battle in a bad position).

A hasted character using Trigger Happy (lv3) will be able to hit about 20 times in one round, whereas without haste they’ll only hit 10-11 times. Useful hint for everyone. 😉

I prefer to use CONGRATS! on the enemies in 81-99. Far faster and more rewarding.

I agree with virus369 u may need it in a tight spot.

True, catnip does ridiculous amounts of damage. It seems as if in every Final Fantasy there seems to be an "easy" way out of bosses (FFVII: Knights of the Round)
To get maybe a close to possible way of reaching 9,999 damage is to euip 1 or 2 Iron Dukes (heh heh)

International version makes it harder. It puts you into berserk and slow. Even with a Speed Bracer, you’re stil in berserk – No more Trigger Happy.
