BLACK TIGHTS – 1961 Ballet Film Soundtrack – Maurice Chevalier – Marius Constant FLAC

BLACK TIGHTS (Les Collants Noirs) a 1961 dance film, originally exhibited in 70mm with 6 track stereo sound, should be remembered today if only for its historical value showcasing three of the 20th Century’s greatest dancers, Cyd Charisse, Moira Shearer & Zizi Jeanmaire. Besides the three talented ladies dancing the legendary Roland Petit’s brilliant choreography, the film also features Maurice Chevalier’s clever and witty introductions to each of the four ballets and original music by four composers including the film’s Music Director, Marius Constant, who wrote the famous theme from Rod Sterling’s iconic TV series, “The Twilight Zone”. Directed by Terence Young, who helmed three James Bond films, Wait Until Dark & numerous other films of the 1960s & 70s, BLACK TIGHTS was not well received in its initial engagements but has developed a cult following since. Two soundtrack LPs of excerpts from all four of the film’s ballets were released, one on RCA (with English narration) and another on PYE (French narration), both of which went out of print very quickly. Neither of the albums have ever been legitimately issued on CD or any other format. This remastered LP of the soundtrack is from RCA FSO-0003, fairly clean vinyl but with added reverb which was the custom with soundtrack albums at the time but I have tried to minimize it as much as possible. The stereo spread is wonderful and I hope you find much to enjoy from this rare recording.
