Best Beat Em Ups?

Hi all! I finally downloaded MAME awhile back and I’ve mostly been playing beat em ups cause I love that type of game (Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Night Slashers are my faves so far). Are there any fans here who could recommend some good ones?

TMNT

Must acquire Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara, perhaps my all time favourite arcade game. Up to four players, forking paths, six different character classes, and a whole lotta ass kickin’. Great things can happen when you give a beat em up a few RPG elements. Recommend play with a controller.

Man, you need some Sunset Riders action going on. Its a must.

From what I’ve seen, the Dungeons & Dragons Collection for the Saturn is incredible. I want it very badly.

I forgot all about Double Dragon. Shame on me! I used to have Double Dragon V for my Genesis. That was my favorite out of the series.

What is this? Is there no love for River city Ransom?

River City Ransom is a true classic. One of my all time Fav Beat-em-ups.

What about Renegade for the NES? I played that alot too in my younger days.

Oh shit! Golden Axe was my shit! I wasted tons of quarters on the arcade back in the day. Super fun beat ’em up!

It’s not great, but hilarious if you like to laugh at poorly executed concepts. I think I last saw it in the TMNT live action movie a few years back. The one with Vanilla Ice performing "Ninja Rap".

Yeah, I remember going to the movie theater and seeing Bad Dudes too. People may call it a crappy game now, but it was quite popular back in the day.

Pit Fighter was also there. Which in a way qualifies as a beat-em-up more so than a fighter.

The Simpsons Arcade.

I’d go for Double Dragon III, Final Fight, and Street of Rage as the 3 nominates for the best beat’em up ever.

But I haven’t played a lot of the new stuff that came out the past few years, so maybe there are better games then those.

But those 3 games are the ones that I had the most fun playing.

I also have to mention that TMNT IV Turtles in Time was a blast.

Someone should make a flash game where regular enemies are "Mooglemage" and "Seele" and the bosses are always "The Master".

they are also made so that whiny 4 year old babies who can beat other beat em ups cant beat this ones.
they are made for men…. and some so called women.

It seems like Konami was pretty much the king of beat em ups. I didn’t realize how many cartoon licenses they did until I started digging through MAME.

On the other hand, Armored Warriors and AVP by Capcom are like crack for me.

It is one of my favorite games…

I haven’t played God Hand yet. I guess I’m missing out.

Yeah, I definitely grew up on beat-em’ ups. I remember having lock-ins at the local skating rink and playing the Simpsons’ and X-Men/Avengers beat-em’ up. I also finished the entire Thriller beat-em’ up at Shakey’s one time with my brothers.

– Dungeons and Dragons (‘welcome to the indy world’ or whatever it says)
– Altered Beast (rise from your grave)
– Arabian Fight & Magic (one is by Sega and the other is by… uh)
– Spiderman (the one with Black Cat, Namor, Spiderman, and who was the 4th)
– Alien vs Predator
– Bucky O’ Hare

Uh… I know some more but lack of sleep is preventing me from thinking.

There were some good TMNT beat-em-ups back in the day. I used to go to a friends house all the time and play them on his SNES.

I have this homebrew beat-em-up called "Beats of Rage" for my Dreamcast. It’s KOF characters, but there’s only three to choose from, neither of whom I actually like. It’s pretty decent for a homebrew game. Just wish another would be made with more characters.

D&D Shadow over Mystara, Godhand, Final Fight 3, Double Dragon for the nes… and of course, the best of it all haha, Maximum Carnage 😀
