Bernard Herrmann – Vertigo [1958] (James Conlon 1999 re-recording) [FLAC]

James Conlon conducted the Paris Opera Orchestra on April 1, 1999, re-recording Bernard Herrmann’s "Vertigo" score for Douglas Gordon’s art project, "Feature film."

Out-of-print for eighteen years, "Feature film" was released by Artangel UK as an art book with a companion CD of the "Vertigo" re-recording. Douglas Gordon’s film and book focus on the hands and face of James Conlon as he conducts to screen, documenting the tightest of interactions between film and a viewer, with one of cinema’s greatest scores. This is the only recording of the complete "Vertigo" score.

The audio on the companion Compact Disc is one single CD track and has a frequency cutoff around 22kHz. After extracting the single WAVE file, I created new cue points which matched the 42-track MP3 release, which was freely available online for many years. While this lossless release is an upgrade to those 320kbps MP3 files, the FLAC files may show a result of lossy or ‘upsampled’ in Lossless Audio Checker. This is the highest audio quality the companion CD to "Feature film" offers, and is provided both as a single FLAC file with cue sheet, and individual FLAC tracks.
