Baxter’s Goliath and the Barbarians & Lavagnino’s Last Days of Pompeii New Remasters

Coupled here are newly remastered & mixed soundtrack scores from two 1959 Italian Sword & Sandals Epics, both starring American bodybuilder Steve Reeves. Goliath and the Barbarians (original title: "Il terrore dei barbari") featured a new score for its English language dubbed American release by Les Baxter while the English language version of The Last Days of Pompeii (original title: "Gli Ultimi Giorni Di Pompei") retained the excellent, lyrical score by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino. Both scores complement each other nicely on a single CD. The Les Baxter soundtrack was released on American International Records and the 3 channel magnetic master sounds wonderful. The Lavagnino is a little rougher sounding as is the case with most Italian recorded soundtracks of the period but some of the harshness present in the original releases has been minimised in this remastering.
