AWOL Elio.

Is there a glitch where you can’t find Elio the Cactuar Gatekeeper perched on the roof of the airship after you beat Sin, but before you go inside him?

A Cactuar Sidequest guide assured me that I could continue the sidequest once Sin was defeated, but Elio’s nowhere to be found. I’ve even gone back to the desert to hopefully trigger his appearance, and still nothing.

This is keeping me from getting the Mercury Sigil. HELP.

Did you go to the Oasis before the airship….?

Or, possibly, are you sure that Tidus doesn’t already have a Cactuar sphere in his hand, and you have just forgotten to take it back? Another reason for this might be that you may not be up to Elio yet.

When I say this I’m not trying to imply that you are ignorant or anything, so I hope you don’t take any offense to what I’m saying. If neither of those are the problem, I have no idea how to help you.

Nope. Absolutely sure. At this point, I’d prefer simple forgetfulness like that. But I go to the stone, it tells me Elio’s on a journey, and he’s not on the airship. I’ve played and beaten the game numerous times before, so I know the drill. This has never happened.
