Sakamoto "returning" himself had not released a solo album for 8 years, mobilized in particular by a cancer of the throat that put his career and his life in danger.

The title of this record, which had almost testament or summit value for him: "Async" (as Asynchronous: which does not unfold at the same speed). Here Ryuichi Sakamoto superimposes the layers of sounds and textures relying on both natural sounds harvested in different museums and on technology (here the synthesizer Prophet 5) playing both qualities and defects of digital technology … The music appears in places (ZURE) as pixelated, cut out; natural sounds (wind, rain, garden or crowd sounds), but also strings of the shamisen, an old Japanese instrument, a kind of lute from the 17th century.

All this in the service of what Ryuichi Sakamoto considers as a "soundtrack for an imaginary film by Andrei Tarkovsky" (Russian director Andrei Rublev "of" Stalker "). A music even bears the title of "solari" (which refers to "Solaris", Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival 1972). We also hear the poetry of Arseni Tarkovsky, the filmmaker’s father, whom Sakamoto recorded in the voice of David Sylvian.

I have this in 96/24 hi-res; if anyone is interested PM me for the link.

The 96/24 version is ripped from my own copy of the vinyl LP (I always buy vinyl if I can – vastly superior to CD) on its first playing, using my own very high-end vinyl system and captured with Sound Forge Pro 11 then converted to FLAC from the original wav files.

I’ve also included the ‘async remodels’ version (CD quality – couldn’t get any higher res) as a bonus. The resultant file is quite large at 1.44Gb overall!
