Back by not-so popular demand. No, really, it all started with a post made by Fjnanfag which can read here (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f2/%5Bpoll%5D-ask-sonicadventure-deluxe-edition-your-favorite-179037/4.html#post2778850). In order to understand the re-upload of this score (dont ask for others, it wont happen) you need to read those posts first.
Did you read them? Good. As a special treat Im therefore offering the (almost) original master files used to create this release 3 years ago. Not many of you might know it (simply because of a lack of interest in those matters) but I remaster/master everything in 32/192. Its of course upsampled and not real HiRes stuff. When its finalized, I downsample to 96 kHz, that is the version I myself listen to all the time (for convenience reasons). When something is released here, I process it further. Most of the time, I employ more or less slight brickwall limiting, resample the 96 kHz master down to 44.1, then dither it to 16 bit.
Meaning: the CD & MP3 version is louder than my master. By exactly 3.79 dB. In order for you to be able to compare them you need to lower the gain by -3.79 dB. Why? When music is louder it will sound better to us humans, even though its the same music. What can you do with the 24/88.2 version? Not much Im afraid. You cant burn it to CD, nor can you move it to your smartphone. You can burn a DVD-Audio or an audio-only BluRay of course. Or you could just listen to it on your HiRes capable stereo. For anyone who doesnt understand what I just wrote, dont worry. Just take the FLAC or MP3 version and youll be good.
For those of you who already got it all those years ago, you dont need to download it again (unless you want the HiRes version), it has not been changed.
Have fun - again! :)

So, what type of music would you say this is like? I'm not a big fan of Zimmer post Gladiator - I prefer the classical orchestral style. Do you think this would be my cup of tea?

Ive just decided to revise the cover: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (

I just felt I didnt do a good job on the first version, it look imbalanced and too dark without colour. The new one changes that...

I dont know, just try it. Its quite melancholic and it foreshadows some of the stuff Hans Zimmer did for The DaVinci Code. One major instrument of The Ring is a reverbed piano... so why dont you try it out? IMO its one of the most underrated scores from Hans Zimmer and I prefer it over POTC.

Indeed, and the source material posted by Takehiro is another one. I wouldn't let go one for the other... A 2-CD set it is for me.
Now Sonic already knows my own opinion, wich is not 100% positive if I consider the qualities of the original source, but not too far... But that's a long discussion we already had together - and matters of choices (wich seem perfect for Zimmer fans, unlike me) ...
... I'm starving to read the constructive opinion of a sound specialist like you though, cause I don't think we had such a honour yet.

Because I think thats what 'sharing' is about. You see, the moment my links have expired, I feel that my deed is done so to speak. After that its up to one of those people who downloaded it to share it again. That is - for me - sharing ;)

Thanks for the share. As expected there is no audible sound quality difference to my ears. The spectral analysis does look very legit for a fake 24/88.2 release though. By the way, is there only added info in terms of sample rate, or also in terms of bit depth/sample size? Makes me wonder if there ever comes a time that enables us to differentiate between 16/44.1 and high resolution audio how a release like this would sound.
Regards.

Added info regarding Bit depth? No. But one could of course argue about that. A 'normal' upsample using 24 / 32 bits fills the interpolated data with zeroes. Mine would be the same until I start working on it (-> processing it). Since I process any Edition with EQ, stereo phase tools and whatnot, I introduce millions of new possible values (32 bit floating point keeps rounding errors much lower)... though those values naturally are derived from manipulation/interpolation. So I in fact create new floating point values from integer-based material like 16 bit.
But its all academic since it doesnt have any actual resolution advantage. I do this only to keep errors below audibility levels.

I have literally zero experience with actual music manipulation. The most advanced music editing I have ever done is looping a few tracks, which I immediately discarded on the account of sounding appalling, which cannot even officially be labeled as manipulation of music. When I imagine your "imaging" technique I cannot help but compare it in my mind to the frame interpolation techniques modern 120 Hz+ televisions utilize, which while completely gratuitous for movies, is still a technique that "works" to some degree. Though it is apparent I am way out of my capabilities of comprehension here hence will refrain from construing any further comments.
Only releases that originate from a 24-bit source would benefit more from a 24-bit release. The Lord of the Ring's complete recordings DVD-A discs are 5.1 24/48 (16-bit LFE, 20-bit surround, and 24-bit L+R) if I recall correctly. But I presume the majority of your releases stem from a 16-bit files anyway.
I see that I forgot to actually like your OP as I obtained the link from a mirror upload by charlie later in this thread. Which is completely unacceptable, especially since I listen to this release the most of all your Deluxe Editions. Such a great arrangement to listen to from beginning to end sans headaches. I like Zimmer, but I find it hard to listen to his scores from beginning to end because they are somewhat fatiguing.

This method wasnt my idea, someone described it years ago on a forum that has long been dead since. It has some advantages and some disadvantage but what Im not doing is adding new material. Im just interpolating data prior to working on it. Imagine points within a defined space, point A and point B. Now, when I upsample / increase bit depth I sort of move them further apart, their distance increases. To fill up the resulting void, new points have to be created. So you end up with point A, A1, A2, AB1, AB2, AB2.5, BA0, etc. until you reach point B. TVs do it differently, they actually create new pictures based on what comes before and after. Its similar but not the same since you end up with new material. The algorithms used for this kind of processing incorporate statistical data derived from thousands of image situations, combined with math. Thats why you can sometimes witness errors, they just cannot 'know' every picture situation that exists.
My upsampling method however is pure math, nothing else.
A fitting comparison would be the 36 bit output mode for HDMI. Imagine a 36 bit-capable BluRay player connected to a TV set having the same abilities. Yet BluRays have a colour bit depth of 24 bit so effectively the BluRay player outputs an 'upscaled' picture based on interpolation which the TV then presents. This upscaling from 24 to 36 bit would be comparable.
Only releases that originate from a 24-bit source would benefit more from a 24-bit release. The Lord of the Ring's complete recordings DVD-A discs are 5.1 24/48 (16-bit LFE, 20-bit surround, and 24-bit L+R) if I recall correctly. Yes. Ive yet to receive HiRes material to work with. Wait, no. One of my releases was derived from a true 24 bit master: 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'. I bought it at HDTracks. The same will be true for 'Jurassic Park' once I get around to redo it.

Dont worry about it, its pretty old and would I do it again today Id do it differently. Indeed, it isnt one of my favourite Editions.

Ah the HDTracks release. Bought that one a while ago too. Uploaded it here as well. Like so much music I have yet to sit down and listen to it though. The Desolation of Smaug and final film should get a similar release, probably not happening though.
And you tend to dislike older works at times don't you? Must be difficult if you adapt new techniques not to want to revise older versions or come back from certain decisions. Perfectionism at its finest. As long as you are not pulling a George Lucas I am sure people won't mind.

They are worth it, trust me. If you dont want the glaring treble, just use the version I uploaded. Its in mp3, sure, but itll still sound better than any available version (I just know how to encode mp3 properly).
I dont tend to dislike older works of mine... its just that over time I tend to find more flaws Ive overlooked the first time. But actually, theres only one score I would do again: Jurassic Park. The others... not so much.

I am currently uploading the 24/88.2 FLAC version to MEGA, but my upload speed is deplorable. Two hours in, three to go. Often MEGA gives an error when working with low transfer speeds for me, so I cannot guarantee 100% that a link will be ready, but I sure hope so.

I'm hugely impressed that you requested it twice and still didn't make any effort to check for a working link.
Just like in the other thread, remember that sometimes what you're looking for is closer than you think... maybe even 10 posts before your request.
