THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM

320 CBR .MP3 | 63 Tracks | Running Time: 3"3'51
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FJWD7Y9Q
JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR: This is *not* the 4CD soundtrack being put out by Directsong. This is just something to tide you over until Directsong decides to give us the soundtrack we paid $35 for.

So this is the full 4 CD thing? I'd have thought they'd get a bit more than 63 tracks across 4 CD's.
Anyway, thanks for this.

Hum, the quality seems a bit iffy to me. I'm not entirely sure what the proper name for it is, but some tracks have that 'compression' sound to them, 'Sons of Skyrim' being a good example if you want to hear it yourself.

Yeah you can see the reason for that if you check the quality with Adobe Audition. These files are 128kbps at best. They were reconverted..

Well, I didn't do any conversion of any kind - that was all done by Bar, so take that up with him.
And yes, this is a rip. I assumed that was somewhat obvious, considering the unofficial covers as well as the fact that I had done an arrangement in Bar's thread.

THanks hex!
Great work, Doublehex! :D
For anyone with questions about the quality: they are transcoded from a lossy source: xWMA (used both in the PC and Xbox 360 versions). I recently updated my rip with higher-quality MSF transcodes (from the PS3 version), though you can still hear it's lossy. If I had simply posted them in MP3, the quality would have been even worse. The best quality you can get is from the MSFs in my topic. So, I guess that if you really want lossless quality, wait for the official soundtrack to come out. Meanwhile, enjoy Doublehex's arrangement. :)

Funny, farting is exactly what comes to mind with respect to the music of Jeremy Soule.
Now, before I download this enormous thing... Is it any good? Honestly? You know me. Am I going to like this thing? Or am I going to download it and find it's typical RV/MC wannabe fake orchestra Soule trash?

You know, that is a tough question.
Okay, one ONE hand, I think this is Soule's best music since Icewind Dale, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander and Guild Wars: Eye of the North. It is not as vibrant, as dramatic as those other games, but there are some tracks that I find marvelous. I love the main theme and more than a good amount of the boss themes. Some of the Exploring themes are great, in my opinion. But this is a very reserved score - I think Alexandre Desplat comes to mind in terms of how it works with the game.
Well, let me expand on that. It's Desplat with the Exploring themes, and John Williams with the Battle themes.
But on the other hand, I will not say this is fantastic music. Is this good music that I enjoy as I listen? Yes, of course. But most of it is not memorable. And this is coming from a guy whose standards is not as much as yourself. You are much more critical than myself. But you admire Desplat, which I'd say this is similar to on a thematic level, so maybe you will enjoy this.
So...all I can say is just download it. Yeah, I know I wasted a ton of space to say that, but I really can't say if you'll enjoy this or not. I'm not you, I can't predict what you'll like or not. Sorry my good British man, but you are on your own for this one! :D
...Jeez, I really need to learn to consolidate my words. :/
EDIT: Let me add one thing. There is no way you can't not love Sons of Skyrim. It is Awesome Orchestral Hell Yeah to the nth degree. And no, I do not mean in the RC sort of fashion. It is one of the most memorable orchestral themes ever and is fun to listen to. Not actually the most deep or profound but I can easily say THAT at the very least is written quite well.

I can't find a single videogame theme this year more memorable than this one.
This is Halo, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Super Mario's level of memorable and iconic music.

I love the top quote on that video: "makes everything 200% more epic. You could go buy toilet roll to this and feel like you were on an epic quest"
I enjoy this music, but at the same time I feel like a big portion of the music is lifted from other composers, namely John Williams (there's a song in there that almost sounds like a track from Saving Private Ryan) and The Lord of the Rings. The music is good, and I enjoy it, but a lot of it doesn't feel original to me. I've only heard a portion of the music so far, though.

Like I said last time - I have no idea. I'm not you. I like it. I think it's good. Not great, but it's good. The main theme is wonderful. It is loud, bombastic, fun and very memorable.

I think know you well enough to answer. You will not find it worth the listen. Yeah there are some cool things going here and there, but for the size and time you specifically won't find it worth it. There is alot of effect music and orchestral ambience. And by that I mean if its an active track then its "here there is some action have some pounding and choir and shouts" or if its not then "heres some nice out of the way semi ambient orchestra stuff". The theme has a certain appeal, and every once and a while there is a nice english horn melody, or some interesting dulcimer work. I'm not saying its bad and I understand why it is written the way it is, but as a whole I don't think it is your cup of tea. ;)

I would not call it ambiance. It is not at the forefront, but it is not ambiance, or at least how I know the term. I always considered ambiance as just noise arranged into something that just barely be considered musical - like, the howling of wind in a cavern or murmurs to give a sense of something hidden in the shadows.
The music is NOT dominant. Like I said, this is more like Desplat than it is Williams. In my opinion, that does not make it bad, although I would prefer something with more oomph. That would not work with the gameplay, however, so I think Soule made the right decision in that regard.
The battle themes are pretty rad however. I don't think there will be any debate there.
In terms of orchestra, I know for a FACT that the chorus is real. And I want to say the instruments are as well, but last time I did I was proven wrong so do not quote me on that. :D
ShadowSong
11-20-2011, 11:15 PM
That wasn't the definition of ambiance I was using. I usually define ambient music as music of any instrumentation thats purpose is to give character/feel/atmosphere without without a clear structure or direction. That is what I meant, sorry for the confusion.

This shouldn't be called "Complete ORCHESTRAL Score"
As Soule's long term fan since his early days I can easly confirm he NEVER used orchestra. He always used synthesized music with his own samples he had created back in the past, that's why all his soundtracks sound "the same", because he always uses that same, unique samples for his synthesized pieces. Basicly, there is no orchestra whatsoever in this. The chorus however is indeed real.
Doublehex
11-21-2011, 04:44 PM
Not true. He used a small orchestra for Total Annihilation!
However, even if that's true, I would still use orchestral in it's description. Why? Because it is orchestral in philosophy. We have none of that techno layers that underline many scres nowadays. There are themes and references to those themes. He uses natural, classical instruments. This is just as much an orchestral score as all the Zelda scores have been.

Not all the Zelda scores have been orchestral, Twilight Princess's Zant Battle is very techno.

Actually, Jeremy uses synth ochestra with single live instruments (the same as RCP these days usually does). I remember interview about Sorrow Furnace. He admited that he has some solo live instruments. I believe cello and french horn are one of these (since horn is used pretty often, and it always sounds more live than other instruments)

Tango, I am doubtful you will like it but I do think you should at least give it a shot. I've not downloaded this (think I'll just wait for my CDs to arrive) but I'll echo what Doublehex has said based on what I've heard in-game -- very pretty, extremely reserved, faux orchestral. I would describe it as fairly ambient in that its all about mood, and I'd have to say that so far I like it better than anything else I've heard by Jeremy Soule. "Sons of Skyrim" gets the blood a-pumpin'. :)

Sad that they didn't record the soundtrack with real instruments. Didn't know that he has created his own samples, but that explains, why his soundtracks in terms of orchestral texture "sound" very similar. From what I've read he used a small orchestra on scores like Total Annihilation (at least in a couple of tracks, others are clearly synthesizers) and he recorded the score for Amen - The Awakening with one. Also I think there was an article that parts of the Harry Potter game soundtracks were played by a real orchestra.
