Here is Bernard Herrmann original score and re-record version of Fahrenheit 451.
It is composed for a large strings orchestra embodying other instruments like the harp, xylophones, and it is one of his most beautiful soundtracks.
The score is tragically romantic, as if Herrmann through this very emotional yet at the same time lyrically simple music, is opposing the dispassionate and oppressive universe portrayed in the movie.

This is one of my favourite of Herrmann's non-Hitchcock works. :love:

That's a beautifully expressed observation.

Herrmann romanticised the books. The "love theme" for Montag and Linda is turgid and tacky... the real love theme comes out when Montag is alone with his books. Good God, I love this score, and I really love the film. The finale is one of the most breathtaking moments in cinema; and it was a complete accident. Truffaut worried about the ending and believed it wasn't convincing. After a number of ruined takes, a freak snowstorm descended - the camera rolled, and as the old man recites Weir of Hermiston to his nephew; the snow falls to the line "And he died as he thought he would, while the first snows of winter fell."

And, so he did.

This film is very special to me.

This has always been a controversial BAD recording... lacking the harps at the end of the 451 piece. It may not be every iota music from the score, but the suite conducted by Eska Pekka Salonen and the LA Philharmonic remains my favorite .

I think he's referring to a 2009 release titled Herrmann The Film Scores from Sony Classical with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the LA Phil.

I thought he was talking about two different records :-)
