Any fans of the Sega Mega Drive or Genesis, depending on where you live? It was one of my favourite consoles of all time. What are your favourite games?

If anyone is interested, I've just reviewed the "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection", which is on the XBox 360 and the PS3 and has over 40 amazing Mega Drive games on it including Sonic, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and much more. You can read my review here!

Seconded!

I love the Mega Drive, and still had one til recently. Luckily though, the magic of emulation means I still can play all the classics I grew up with on my PC. As for favourite game, I'd have to say Sonic 2 - it was the blue spiky one's magnum opus at that time (a feat not topped til the sublime Sonic CD for the much maligned Mega CD was released). I still remember taking a a couple of days off school feigning sickness just to play it! :p

Naturally, I loved many other games too of course - Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles, Phantasy Star II, Golden Axe, Landstalker, Flashback, Syndicate, Shining Force I and II, Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3 - but Sonic 2 is still my favourite. :)

I prefer Sonic 3 and Knuckles to Sonic 2, but as stand alone games definitely the second Sonic was the best, when it came out there was no platformer better than it in my opinion. :)

Fortunately I still have my Megadrive console (With MegaCD 2 attachment), though haven't played it in awhile. Have some time to kill to Saints Row The Third is released so I might as well crank the Sega up ^^.

I can't really pick a firm favorite, as the console had plenty of great games: Asterix, Alisia Dragoon, Chakan (bloody hard game), Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II (Heh, I bought Enkidoh's copy a few years ago lol), Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike, Talespin, Sonic 1+2+3+& Knuckles, Ranger X, X-Men etc. I admit though, I do have a fondness for the 'Strike' series, but Asterix and Alisia Dragoon are two I did spend a lot of time tracking down and paying a small fortune for on Ebay... BUT THEY WERE WORTH IT!!

Well, I thought the SNES was 100 times the machine that the Megadrive was, but I guess your '3 button controller, console for kids' (I'm joking) had some good titles - Desert Strike is indeed an awesome game for example. I used to be the Road Rash master as well... I also picked up the Megadrive collection a while back - spent most of my time playing old RPGs like 'Shining in the Darkness'.

But yeah, this wasn't really my thing. The Megadrive was okay, but it wasn't italian enough and there were no pipes...

My time with Sega consoles was spent entirely at my cousin's place.

I much preferred the SNES to the Genesis, man. Like, by a lot.

Lots of good memories with the Genesis. Sonic 2 was a blast, MKII with that 32x thing was my second most played game. There was also some Golden Axe and some sort of Gem game in there.

Don't get me wrong, I do love my SNES and I do agree with Vrykolas and FIGHT SMACK IN THE ORPHANAGE that the SNES did have a better game library (Breath of Fire II, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past etc), but the Megadrive/Genesis did have some good games to help support it and did have a CD system... pity that the only decent game on the Mega-CD was Sonic CD.

I do recall that Nintendo and Sony did work together to make a CD platform for the SNES... but Nintendo pulled out of it when the new machine was about 50% complete iirc.

Lots of good memories with one. Sonic the Hedgehog (blew my mind with the SE-GA! chime at the start), Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure, The Lion King, Super Street Fighter II...

Good times.

The only one thing I didn't really get to enjoy at that time was the glory of locking on Sonic and Knuckles to Sonic 3. See, my aunt buys me the games, and she was conned into buying the bootlegged carts because they were cheaper. As a result, I can't save game in Sonic 3, and my SnK cart lacks a lock-on slot. I've only managed to enjoy the true glory of the games by buying the PC version, and then the Virtual Console version of the game.

I love the Genesis. Some of my favorite games are: TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Shinobi 3: Return of the Master Ninja, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, Dune and of course Sonic The Hedgehog.
