It's actually a bonus CD to the vol.2 of the limited edition DVD n Blu-ray releases, featuring 12 score tracks (around 25 mins) composed by Sato Naoki. I do hope there's a real official soundtrack release when it's movie rolls out, until then, let's enjoy this~:D

Thank you so much!
Is anybody else fed up to the back teeth of these idiotic score releases in which there is no separate release but instead anywhere between three and twelve three-quarter empty "bonus CDs" packaged with expensive DVD sets?
It is becoming more and more prevalent. Just three years ago it seemed that pretty much every series got a CD...
I am getting fed up as well as you

I suspect this is to limit piracy, which, ironically, doesn't seem to be working so well. XD

I'm also fed up with this. It's really getting out of hand. Seems like CD releases are kinda "out".
But as long as those Bonus CDs keep showing up in time I'm not complaining. You can always compile the tracks and make your own soundtrack. That's what I did with Freezing, Ga-Rei Zero and others.
I don't think it's done to limit piracy but to secure that the over-priced DVDs get bought.

I rather believe it's because soundtracks aren't selling and manufacturers, mindful of the fact that there are still people who want them, use this as a method of getting otherwise unprofitable CDs out there somehow.
Not in a million years is it an attempt to sell more DVDs. How many people do you think are buying 300 DVD box sets just to get a soundtrack CD? Zero. The DVDs will sell at exactly the same rate they would have done had no soundtrack CD been included. Those who buy the DVDs find themselves with a copy of the soundtrack; and 90% of them will go straight in the bin. Those not interested in the DVDs will pirate the soundtrack as they have always done.
Giving away something essentially worthless with something valuable will not cause more sales of the valuable thing. It simply ensures that the fiscally worthless something does at least exist.
It's still a flaming nuisance.

I was actually kidding ;)
But it's a fact that those limited editions sell like crazy.

Oh, they sure do. People are suckers for a "limited edition" or something in a leather case, etc...
But I cannot see five hundred thousand people beating the shit out of each other in order to get their hands on a DVD box set... because it has a twenty minute bonus soundtrack CD with it. ;)
It'll be because it is listed as "SUPER BEST COLLECTION", "special rare limited box set, only 300,000,000,000 copies printed!", or "Has Fold Out Picture Of Girl With Big Boobs Inside".
I still feel like they try to have a reason for people to buy them just because they come with extra cds. So people would not feel so robbed because of certain prices.
it is more the money they waste with having limited editions which they know it will sell, and having regular editions that it seems very little amount of people will get it. People like us are mostly getting those dvds just because of the soundtrack, and do not care for the dvds either.

for those rightfully annoyed by the multiple decryption and conversion process of this... here it is at
320 VBR MP3 (don't recall what quality audacity goes up to... so hopefully 0)
all cut up into its individual tracks

sorry, I don't feel like doing it again for Flac. XD Monkey Audio more or less makes it flac; all that'd be left is cutting it up... but meh.

The encoding preset is VBR V0 and the encoder is LAME 3.98. The only thing that's fucked up is that the stereo mode, which should be joint stereo but apparantly is not.

I think it's a mix of many different factors. The Japanese anime industry is in the middle of a serious crisis which gets more and more obvious and maybe that is their way out :)
It seems to work.
Yes, it is annoying but I see it that way: Better this way than no release. I mean, the bonus CDs are not that hard to find and they usually show up soon after the DVD/BluRay is out.
As long as the CDs have a tolerable running time (30+ minutes) it's ok with me. What they did with Deadman Wonderland was kinda ridiculous though.
