Q:

What do they mean with "the works for soundtrack" So this is not a "the best of - " soundtrack?

A:
This is not really a best of but a collection of previously unrelesed titles that Kajiura herself decided to put together and release for her fans. If you want to hear her more melodic works I would check out the stuff for Tsubasa Chronicles and Elemental Gelade. You will find a few tracks with pounding synth but there are also very nice emotional tracks and jazz and vocals. Kajiura has never written anything I would call orchestral but I wouldn't expect it or care because I like her style. Some of her early works for Noir, Madlax, and .hack//sign tend to have a lot more synthesizers but also have some nice melodies. It all depends on how much time you want to spend to get into the music. The Xenosaga 2 music is very nice and gives you a good taste of the vocal melodies she likes to use. More recently, the Pandora Hearts, Rekishi Hiwa Storia and El Cazador de la Bruja have some nice music as well. You can tell from one or two of those soundtracks if you should check out the rest as they tend to have a certain style to them. El Cazador has more of a spanish flavor as you can tell from the title.
