Let's talk about them. Which game features the strongest love story. Which has the weakest? Which has the hardest to point out? Can you defend your allegations? Talk away with your peers and let's see if we can figure this out... I'll present my opinions later, so you all can get a jump-start.

Well, as for strongest..more than likely FF8. I was tempted to say FF7, but then I thought that the 'love' wasn't all that strong, or wasn't all that obvious. There might have been something going on, but the game didn't revolve around that, as with FF8, you have all sorts of things going on. Just look at when Squall meets Rinoa to the end of FF8. And no, I won't spoil it, so don't worry. Sorry for those of you who haven't beat it though...

And hardest love story to point out..? Well, I've only actually played through FF7-FF10...so, I guess I'll just go with FF7...but like I said, there wasn't too much og a love story there...

Anndd...I guess that settles it for me. o.O;

I can't really disagree with FFVIII. It was pretty strong in that one. I give FFIX second place, with FFX running a close third and FFVII coming in last (although it was definitely there too.) As for the others before that, it really wasn't even there all that much.

Here goes..

Weakest - FF8: If you think about it, it's pretty predictable.

Strongest: FF10: Enough said~

Hardest: FF7: If you think about it, it's quite complex.

FF9 doesn't really fit in anyway but it was fairly predictable as well.

Well I would have to say ff10 is the strongest, FF7's was quite strong but they didnt really do much to show it:confused:

Final Fantasy 9 definitely has a love story! Zidane and Dagger became more than just friends throughout the game. They were in love by the end of the game.

If that doesn't talk about the bond between those two, I'm not sure what else would. :)

In any case, I always thought FF9 had the most realistic love story. It's not a WHIRLWIND romance, but it's about how people really do become part of each other, through the bonds of love.

FF10 had a strong relationship, too. As did FF8. FF7 was... well, you know they cared for each other, but I just didnt' feel as strongly for those games as I did FF9. :)

Strongest - FF8, without a doubt. Other FF's have strong ones too, but not as strong as Squall's and Rinoa's.

Weakest - FF7, I don't even know who's in love! Just kidding, But it's very hard to point out,

Hard to point out - FF7(Above)

Strongest - Tough one I think both FF8 and FF9 have strong love stories as does 10, but the ultimate winner would be 9. I think that it is the most passionate of the love stories. I know in 10 you can feel your heart drop when Tidus has to go, but one scene doesn't make a love story. I feel that Zidane and Dagger had the purest, most heartfelt love of the series, and to me that makes a good love story.

Weakest- 7, though some claim its there I don't really find it has anything to do with the greater storyline or anything else for that matter. 6 might have the weakest though. There are hints of a budding romance between Locke and Celes but it never grows to fruitation.

Hardest- The hardest to understand would have to be Squall and Rinoa seeing as how he goes from thinking she's a total moron to being deeply in love with her. I like FF8's love story though and find it very believable. Like every game after 8 you can really feel that the two characters are in love, and I like it. I for one hope that the love stories continue with FF12.

I'm gonna break it down like this:

Strongest would have to be FFX (I haven't finished FFIX, so stop spoiling it!!!!)


Medium: FFVII (if u don't believe me, play it again, check out Cloud's reason for going after Sephiroth)

Undecided: FFIX (I'm leaning towards medium as its SOOOOOO predictable, first time I see Garnet, I think, wow, there is the love interest, no doubt about it; but it is a fairly strong story, so I'll have to beat it first)


I'm to biased on FFVIII, I absolutly hated the game, from the moment they had a mercenary company named SeeD... I mean comon, run away, the SeeD's are coming? Plus, the fact that the card game was so relied upon to get stuff... <shudders>

well to be honost im tired of the love themes, but i still love final fantasy =P.....

I liked the more subtle love stories. Not this "Everyone look at us , we�re utterly in love!" love theme that everything resolves around.

Locke & Celes were nice... You could notice it if you looked at their behaviour in some key scenes and all, but you were not forced to focus on it. But I guess this is not what you call a proper love theme...

Well, FFVIII was certainly the strongest, with X probably just behind that. And guess what? Barring MQ, they WERE THE SHITTIEST GAMES IN THE SERIES!

So, the moral is : focus to much on love and your game sucks. Probably. This is especially true of 8. Maybe it's just those games focuse a lot on it, and Square really can't write great love stories? I dunno. But VII and IX were good, and I don't think they focused to heavily on it. And IV was awesome. ^~

Final Fantasy IV is my favourite in the series. I mean, you've got the sort of love triangle between Cecil, Rosa and Kain going on. Kain loved Rosa, but she only had eyes for Cecil. At the end of the game, Kain had to turn his back on them, because of that love. It was too painful for him to watch them together, so he did what he felt was right. I know how the poor guy feels...

Then there's the love between Rydia and Edge (okay, it was only hinted, but at the end, Edge says something like "Damn, Rydia, none of these girls compare to you.") That was a pretty romantic moment.

Yeah, VIII had the most mushy story, and IX had the on-going theme of love throughout (it was ultimately love that saved Zidane at the end of the game. He had a reason to return from the Iifa tree. He loved Garnet, so he had to survive when he was attacked and all seemed lost.) X's plot was also based on love, but I like IV as my favourite simply because it's the one I can best relate to, and I think it's the one that kicked it all off.

Since almost everyone keeps talkin about the newer games, i'm switchin it up to the games that really mattered to me, the games that were there BEFORE the playstation. 0ld sk00l represent, Y0!

FF4. Was also one of my favorite games in the series. Adam was right about it on many points. Kain, Rosa, Cecil AND Rydia, and Edge. There was also Edward and his beloved Anna towards the beginning of the game. The game had love oozing from it. :D I loved that game.

Game that lacked the love theme really was FF5. It was bone dry of that theme, IMO.

The only thing I would closely consider is Cara (Krilie) losing Galuf (her grandpa).

FF5 was more about loss than love.

FF6 on the otherhand had little themes of love throughout the game.

Terra was searching to findout what love was and to experience it. Then there was Locke and his flashbacks of Rachel. There were also hints of love between Locke and Celes.

And there are my thoughts and opinions on the theme of love in the best FF saga ever. The SNES period.

Weakest: Well FF1 definitley has the weakest, they don't even speak.

Strongest: Have to agree with what Adam said Final fantasy 4 definitley has this one in the bag. I'm not going to bother repeating what Adam said though as there's no point.

ff8 is WAY too cheesy for my taste-especially that bit in the ragnorak geez.

i like it in ff7 cos its complex, and its good watching the love triangle. the characters in ff7 are really believable

Question: It's been some time since I played FF Tactics, but I think there were vague references to relationships like that there. Perhaps it should get the weakest award concerning the love story...?

FF8 = Sappiest love story. I mean, c'mon. Love being what causes people to survive the time compression thing? Besides all that, the whole concept there was kinda stupid. Compressing time itself destroying everything? And somehow an emotion overpowering metaphysical laws in that world?

FF7 = The most well-rounded in terms of all the elements of the story, IMO. Comedic scenes, love story references, vengeance, etc.

FFX = almost as sappy as FF8, but with hideous voice acting. At least in FF8 you didn't have to deal with Yuna's voice.

FF9 = Worst of the series. I know it was supposed to be a nostalgic throwback. But if I want that I'll break out the Anthology compilation, it does a far better job anyway, can't beat the original.

Seven had the most romantic storyline, It was hinted and you knew they wanted to be together, and if you were not trying to do something else, you went on the date with Aerith. And she perished, and she was the only thing Cloud had ever grown attached to, Like he said, Sephiroth destroyed his hometown, his family, and Aerith. And he sought revenge, which made it the coolest game... just because he was apathetic. The planet didn't matter to him, it was ridding sephiroth from his mind

I think 9 and 10 have the strongest love stories.
Nine: because though it seemed impossible that Garnet and Zidane could ever be together (because they come from 2 entirely different worlds) they found a way to be....
Ten: well...I really don't know what to say bout this one...I just think it's romantic.

I think eight was kinda in the middle because of Rinoa and Seipher and then Rinoa and Squall.....anyways....

And if there was any love in ff7 it was lost on me...:confused:

i think FFVIII, the whole story line was based around wot Squall and rinoa wud do for each other there is movie scene after movie scene showing there love 4 each other, FFX is a close second, FFVII last

Going to have to cast my lot with FFX/FFX-2. Its the only one to spawn a sequal =D. Don't say the love theme isn't in FFX-2 either since the whole reason Yuna is there is to find Tidus.

Oh, there's definitely a big love theme in Final Fantasy X-2 which becomes even more evident as you play more of the game / see the ending.

I agree especially after seeing 3 of the 5 endings. The 100% Completion ending really ties it all together quite well.

I'd say the strongest love story is FFX, even though it is a little creepy when you think about it. The hardest to spot would probably be either Tactics (because there really isn't any love story until the very end of the game), or FFVI, there are so many different stories running at the same time in that game that they don't simply beat you over the head with one of them.


I also want to say that I'm getting sick of all these gigantic love stories and hope they put it to rest, at least for a little while. It just seems to me that the story lines off FFVIII-FFX are much to similar and a little variety could do them good.
