Hey guys! I'm trying to create a OST of Pok�mon Yellow. I got the USF files (.gbs), but it's all one file. How do I put this into Foobar2000 so I can get the separate tracks in .wav? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm new to this who soundtrack thing haha.

USF format is for N64, not gameboy.

Get foobar and foo_gep, put foo_gep in the components folder and it'll separate the tracks for you. You'll need to edit its settings to play the tracks for longer if you plan to convert them to wav and edit the tracks with a loop.

USF? You mean... wait, I dunno. USF is for N64 (Ultra (64) Sound Format).

Anyhow, I use the "Game Emu Player" (i.e foo_gep) plugin, as the above poster said, which can play AY, GBS, GYM, HES, KSS, NSF, SAP, SGC, SPC and VGM. When you play a GBS file (which as you know, contains a single "file", that, rather than going down a list, seem to change to the next one), with this plugin, the files will be separated. The only problem is that they will all have the same metadata. All files will have the game's name at the Title. So, you'd have to rename them when you convert to WAV. Also, all files, by default have a length of 2:50 + 10 second fade out, i.e. 3:00 in total. So, you'd have to increase the default length. The best thing would be to place the default length at the equivalent of 2 loops of the longest track in the Pokemon Yellow soundtrack.
I do have an M3U playlist file that has all the separated Pokemon Yellow GBS tracks. Not only that, they are tagged, AND timed.

The first time is the length, the second is the fade out, the numbers that seem to go in a random order, i.e. 0, 1, 3, 31, etc, is because the actual GBS files are not in order. For example, the credits could be the 5th track in the GBS, and then the title could be the 32nd.

I have not been able to get to play the M3U playlist in foobar2000. Only in Winamp.

Haha, well, I actually figured it out haha. I got each song looped for 3 mins with a 5 - 10 sec face out (Default seemed best).
I added a 3D surround convolution reverb of a forest in Canada. It sound amazing. Then mastered it with all analog audio equipment, which because each track is the same quality and tone, one setting took care of the entire thing, named the tracks, put in order, and converted to the highest quality mp3.

I don't think purists will not enjoy the reverb and the mastering, but it was missing that "magic" that the complete production process adds.

E.g., Song has a non-looping intro of 17 seconds, i.e. 0:00 - 0:17 is not looped, then the actual looped part lasts from 0:17 to 1:23, which is a loop of 1:06, therefore, the 2nd loop would end at 1:06 + 1:23, or 2:29, thus in this example, the track would be 2:29 + 10, i.e. 2:39 including the fade out. 3:00 or whatever the default is, is not bad, as long as there aren't any really long tunes over 3 minutes, for a single loop, or a non-looping extra long credits theme, for example, the credits theme from Wario Land 2 has a length of roughly 3:50, so the default length would be bad. IMO, a default length of 5:00 is best, because then, as long as the 2nd loop ends at no later than about 4:49-4:50, all you'd have to do is just leave the 2 loops + 10 seconds, and cut out/remove anything after that. Damn, the game loops a lot more than 3 mins, so it wouldn't be hard to listen to a 3 minute loop of a track if you have played the game extensively. Convolution reverb is when you take a shotgun (Without ammo obviously. Atleast I think It's a shotgun), shoot it in the room you are trying to copy, record the blast and the acoustics, plug it into a convolution reverb processor, it examines the frequency response of the room, the reverb time, number of reflections, and about 10 other things, and processes the input. ^^

I have no earthly clue why it's called convolution reverb, but it works. ^^ (And I can say earthly because I don't know why when I'm in a normal state of thinking, and I meditate enough. I minus well ask some person who appears when I experience one of those out-of-body experiences)
