this is my first rip ever so if it sucks or isn’t following some sort of normal guideline then TELL ME so i can improve later rips. hopefully this will be the first rip of many. planning on breaking this trend of leeching forever…
OH! ripped from HOOT and edited in Audacity. grabbed the hoot data from snesmusic. UGH, and it looks like i put the incorrect year in the tags. it’s supposed to read 1991, but i just don’t care enough to fix it now.
did i do it right, guys?
i think i’ll start a shitty thread with all of my other rips once i get a good number of them done. i actually just figured out a way to rip a few games that i’ve REALLY always wanted, so i’m motivated?
Since you asked for improvements: Use LAME VBR V0 or similar. 128kbit doesn’t cut it. Maybe put artist information in the artist field instead of in the title and change genre to Game. That’s all I can think of, the rest looks good.
in regards to the tagging issues, i just went through foobar and must have missed "genre" somehow. the artist thing was intentional based on personal preference. i mean, i ultimately make these rips for myself, and prefer to have the artist be the company rather than multiple artists.
thanks for the input, brother.
(edit- wow, i was totally just using the default conversion settings out of stupidity. switching to lame vbr vo fixed all of my previous distortion problems. thanks!)
(edit2- oh. looks like i put "VGM" in genre initially, whereas it should be the more widely used "Game". thanks!)
Note that J-stereo is in use. If you have an option for that you should use it. If you’re using EAC with LAME command line it should be "-V 0 –vbr-new %s %d" without quotation marks. Note that EAC can only handle wave files at 44100 hz with stereo.
again, i’m super new to ANY audio editing, i honestly used my first "fade out" like a month ago……
oh, i ended up grabbing a program called "lamedrop" for my newer conversions. it has all the options i want, and it SEEMS to be fixing all of my earlier quality issues. i’ve switched to lame vbr vo as you suggested. i’ll def check out CDex though. thanks for all your help. seriously.
did i do it right, guys?
As long as you get all of the tracks the game has to offer and have them loop twice and fade out, you’re OK in my book, bro. 🙂
Never even heard of this one before, but I’ll check it out. Thanks!
