This was announced today the price drop will be in effect August 12th.

Discuss.

That was expected.

How could they have justified the $250 price tag next to the PSVita offered for the same price?

The 3DS was overpriced from the start anyway.

Whats funny is through Aug 11th Nintendo is offering 10 free downloadable games for early adopters. I wonder if I could just get a 3DS, get my free games, then take my receipt back to Target, Walmart or Best Buy on Aug 12th and get a price adjustment?

My attitude on the 3DS is unchanged - come back when it has some games worth playing.

At the moment, all it has going for it gameswise, is lots of versions of games I already own and got through playing about 10 years ago.

I think it's gonna be like DS, the real good games will come 1 or 2 years after release (and a lite version)

Well, the reduced price works out well but I'm still going to hold my money until it has a better library of games.

I'll be getting this at some point. I only have like, 3 games for my DS anyways and there's a few coming out for the 3DS that I'd like. Even if the games coming out for it came out 10 years ago, it would be my first time playing them most likely. Good thing I was never a big fan of Nintendo otherwise I too might be bitching about it.

Nintendo haven't done themselves any favours with how they've treated the DS over the last few years. Despite it being a superb handheld that people loved, the games dried right up as Nintendo focused everything on milking their utterly despicable, casual gaming cashcow - the triple damned Wii.

And with such a miserable selection of new games, plus as we've mentioned, lots of old games that Nintendo hardcore fans already bought and had their enjoyment from decades ago, there's little incentive to buy the 3DS.

There's only so much abuse us hardcore fans can take! Capcom would do well to take note of that, as they merrily shaft their western fanbase over Ace Attorney Vs Layton and Ace Attorney Investigations 2, as well Megaman Legends etc etc.

Keep kicking us, and we're going to start to kicking back, you oriental devils!

Think I will just get Vita next year so I can play something with a lot of confirmed games, play online, and not damage my eyes or suffer motion sickniss while playing on from what I hear a fairly weak 3D effect. I hope more games will come to 3DS but I cant hold my breath that long.

They will be free on the eshop by August 12th. Anyone who bought a 3DS before that point obviously paid more for it and can download the free games.

I WANT to like the 3DS. But, essentially as others have said, the run of the Wii and DS were too disappointing to justify any further expenditure on a Nintendo product without it having a PHENOMENAL upturn.

One thing I always thought was stupid about the DS was the fact it was capable of 3D (one of its main draws), yet only had a D-Pad. Honestly, Nintendo, you know better than that. Even making the excuse that the touch screen was to stand in for an analog control stick doesn't fly, because Nintendo has been in the business long enough to know how fucking lazy 3rd party developers can be when they might actually have to USE a console's new features.

I just don't understand Nintendo, and I never have. Trying to predict what they will do next has always been a foolish waste of time, because they rarely seem to apply any logical sense to anything they do as a company. The DS was huge, beloved by basically everyone who played it, yet the Big N just left it to rot, during a period where it was regularly vying with the top consoles for sales and popularity.

And now the 3DS comes out, and we're all here, wallets in hand and saying 'Look, just give us a reason to buy this thing, we *want* to buy it, we want to support you, but you've got to give us something here!'

Its not too much to ask, surely? I love Nintendo, even after the disaster of the Wii. I do want a 3DS, but until there are games worth playing on it, and some cast iron assurances that Nintendo are actually going to support this thing, then no way am I splashing out.

I actually own more backward-compatible games and VC games on both DS and Wii than games actually produced for either. In fact, the controls on Mario 64 DS are so horrible I'd LOVE to trade it for Minish Cap (GBA Zelda) or FF VI Advance. Guess what? No store in town has them. In fact, there seems to be a shortage of all GBA titles, like someone bought them up in my town (or everyone is just hanging on to them indefinitely).

EXACTLY. Couldn't have said it better. Had I money to spend, this is what I'd be thinking word-for-word.

I think the Vita will be better because of Nintendo's failure to launch on the 3DS. It seems that the 3DS is already outdated (3d is overrated, you can get the same looking "3D" by squinting your eyes). Vita seems to be better equipped tech wise, smaller, more powerful, and it seems to utilize lessons learned from the failures of the PSP. I hope the 3DS is succesful in the long run but I wont be buying it.

I'm kinda unsure when I will buy the 3DS. It's an awfully small library of games still (despite the allure of Zelda: Ocarina of Time), and after trying it out a couple more times, the 3-d just isn't that special to me. It is cool–I'll give it that–but it's not the ultimate thrill of gaming, and I don't see two or three good looking games justifying even this much of a price drop, when there are tons more (and an infinitely larger list of) great games on other current systems. I just think it's worth the wait for the 3DS library to expand a little bit more before making the purchase, the way things are lately.

I've always waited for the prices of things to come down, which is why I'm always late to the party, so to speak, about all the latest and greatest games available. I'm not picky with consoles; I'm sorta like a dog chasing a cat with games. A cat is a cat; a console is a console. If it runs well, doesn't fight back, keeps me entertained and is affordable, it's worth it.

PS3, Xbox360, doesn't matter to me. They offer a great selection that gives great variety, and despite this price drop, I've already got a similar system (the DS) with plenty of great games to choose from, whereas this one–like the Wii–only has a bunch of gimmicky ones (i.e. Nintendogs, sports games, etc.) and a few niche titles, but not a whole lot to offer in the action department. Zelda or not, patience could be very rewarding in the end. The worst thing that could happen–and I don't see it happening–is it suffers the Dreamcast's fate and then I'm screwed unless I find some used games and a used system :p The way I see it, there's still a ton of games out there on other platforms to try while I wait for this one to age a little more; the flavor might just be a tad sweeter in time.

Just my two cents; don't mind me :)

edit: Looks like my sentiments are quite mutual with a great many others ^^

The 3DS is backwards compatible with DS games, so in light of the inevitable phasing out of the DS, you might as well "upgrade", even if the funky 3D effect is nothing special to you. It isn't to me as well, honestly. Support and spare parts for the DS will also phase out eventually after the system does.
I will buy the 3DS solely because of Ocarina of Time, and whatever other Zelda titles are eventually released on the system. That's all the reason I need. =p
Well, I might get some Mana, FF, and other titles of mild interest, too.

My nephew got a 3DS in the last two weeks, so I finally got to try it out this weekend. I think I realize why people were psyched for Ocarina of Time 3D. They cleaned up the graphics beautifully for this game compared to N64 version. I was quite impressed with it, especially for a handheld gaming system.

however, oot 3d looks like shit compared to RE revelations.

also, unsurprisingly, 3ds sales skyrocketed after price drop.

which gets to show you that people will always try to get what they want cheaper.
so unless the vita price drops fast, not many people will buy it (regardless of what it offers. the prices talk, not the content -there are exceptions))
