This is my first release, so I typed alot...Deal with it. Lol. If you don't want to read then don't. :P
Hey guys, the Expanded Score of "Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events" by
Thomas Newman has been a HUGE project of mine. Not sure why but this has just been an
awesome score to work with. The themes, the approach, the instruments, it had just really
appealed to my ears and you'd think that once you take on a project like making a complete score
you get so tired of the score by the end, but I love it even more :D it's given me a chance to really
listen to it better than I ever could've before.
Now, First off, I WAS going to do an analysis of this score, but I decided not to I have too much
to say and also not enough smarts about what I'm saying to say it :P so I'd rather keep quiet and
leave my thoughts on the score to myself. I will just say however that it's just really appealed to
me. At it's time it was very different. And I like the variety of it as well. It covers loss, threat,
victory, mystery, home, family, and quirkiness all in one score. And the instrumentation of it I
like as well, I found myself wondering in lots of the tracks...what on earth could be making that
sort of noise? Anyways, yeah.
Now, regarding my version of the score. First and foremost I'll answer some questions I know
EVERYONE is going to ask:
1.) Are there any SFX?
Yes, but they're virtually unnoticeable, the most you get is very distant and VERY quiet, in fact I
think the only sound effects you have in this version are some wood creaking, and bugs
chirping. There's no dialogue unless I PURPOSELY put it there. I've heard MANY DVD rips,
and I can tell you right now. In the case of a rip like Prisoner of Azkaban, I may love the music
and want it, but if I can barely hear over crowd chatter, and huge amounts of echoy dialogue...I'm
not going to listen to it at all. So believe me, I know how bad it can be. Now I tried to make this
as SFX FREE as possible so there are some tracks I chose not to include the film version of due
to SFX that I felt intruded and those would be "Cautiously Optimistic" (Props to Dimensioner on
a genius name for that track) and "Regarding The Incredibly Deadly Viper". The film versions of
these WITH SFX will be part of a Supplemental Tracks "Disc that will come out LATER. I'd
prefer to rip and upload them myself. So yes, this is a MIX of OST and DVD Rip in order to
remove as much SFX as I can.
2.) Did I make this? And how is the editing?
Yes I made this. I ripped the DVD myself, and worked on this myself, I used absolutely
NOTHING from other releases in terms of what you hear, there are some things. For Example
titling a Track "Cautiously Optimistic" which is not what I originally called it...Blast I cant even
remember what I used to call it now..Oh I know "Speeding Towards A New Home" was it's
original title I gave it, but I renamed it because to be honest The Dimensioner's title sounds way
better doesn't it? All the other track titles are mine though. I try to make sure this is MY release
and not My releasing using materials from someone else. I assure you all the music was Ripped
and done by me. As far as editing goes I've been working on THIS particular version for
MONTHS now, and prior to this version I've worked on at least 3 other ones across the span of
two or three years, so I've learned from my mistakes and this is the best I can do, but then again
the editing quality is all up to you guys, but I assure you I AM an editor...it's what I hope to go
into actually so really im doing this for practice. Lol
3.) What's the quality?
I ripped the OST in FLAC, and I used the typical DVD Channels for the project, but after
editing, EVEN though the final render is in FLAC...which im not releasing...at least for awhile. Im not
guaranteeing it's Lossless...im not even going to say it is. At worst...it's 320 MP3. AT WORST. It
is the BEST quality I can have it in. I've lurked here for awhile I can assure you that I know bad
quality (I've seen it get bashed and bash it myself in my mind :P) and I know good quality. It's all
good.
4.) Is their anything new on this? / Why is this any different from other releases?
Im just going to state my honest opinion, I've seen many Lemony Snicket's labeled as
COMPLETE (Im not counting Dimensioner whose is labeled as "MOST complete" which was a
true statement) And to be quite frank all they really are is the Album with The End Credits tacked
on and a maybe like 2 new tracks. So my goal with this version is to provide as MUCH music
as I can, but refrain from having it riddled with SFX. So there is going to be A LOT of new
material. I can guarantee you that.
Now I will like to establish something also so there's no confusion. This is NOT complete as I AM indeed missing a few things. It's basically like 5 minutes of material away from being complete so it's EXPANDED but a big expanded. Now im NOT going to post the tracklist YET, because I may decide to add something or remove something (There's a couple tracks im skeptical on including), but I WILL Post the Discs, their titles, and a description of each. Now,
the idea for the presentation of this is basically a FUN idea. im a fan of the SERIES as well as
the score so I decided to make this a release for the fans of the series as well as of the score, so
there WILL be some tracks that contain dialogue from the film. This will NOT be present on any
of Thomas Newman's work I can assure you, they're dialogue only tracks, sort of similar to how
"The Shining" was done. Well anyways I'll quit yabbering. This is my first release so I think I
tried a little harder to make sure you guys don't have any questions...oh well better to be left with
too much info rather than not enough.
DISCS AND DESCRIPTIONS:

through the End Credits.
DISC 3: Alternate, Unused, and Insert Cues (48 TRACKS AS OF NOW)
This disc contains some different versions of a few select tracks as well as some tracks that
never made it into the film! Also included are BRIEF "Inserts" of different instruments from
different tracks.
DISC 4: Trailer Tracks
These are the songs used in the main advertising campaign
Tracklisting (Since this is not subject to change):
01 - Edward Scissorhands Main Titles
02 - Possibility / Desert Drive
03 - Fire At The San
04 - Debbie's Big Scene
05 - Mouse Hunt Main Titles
06 - Escape From Debbie
SUPPLEMENTAL TRACKS PACK (APPROXIMATELY 20 TRACKS):
This is a disc of tracks that I felt best not to include in the release, but still tracks that people
might want to have the chance to choose to want them or not. Included in this will be SFX
versions of tracks from the film as well as Trailer Suites.
And finally, one last thing, regarding "An Unpleasant Incident Involving A Train" on the album
you'll notice that it is a distinctively different track then heard in the film. That is because the
track in the film for some reason only uses the opening of the Alternate Version on the album. In
the Discs titled "Film Version" the FILM VERSION of this track will be there NOT the Album
Version. I've gone through MANY different versions, and probably spent MORE time on this
track then any other because to be quite honest it's an editing NIGHTMARE. It consists of at
least 3 different tracks from various places in the film along with a small bit of new additional
score...but yeah. I've made it as accurate as I possibly can, and managed to do it without ANY
SFX. :)
Well, that's about it. I hope you guys are excited for it. Im still working out the kinks, and
making final decisions on the tracklist so there's no link right now, but there will be soon, I just
felt it close enough time to let you guys know. Next time I post here will be all the information,
tracklist, and of course the link, and if it turns out favorable ill upload the Supplemental Stuff.
Here's a small version of my custom made cover art! :D Gives the film a different tone doesn't it?
