Greetings.
What Materia combo do you use the most? What Materia combo is your favourite? Do you know of a combo which is extremely useful and destructive?
I've got a few favourite combos, which I have used, and they work extremely well. Here's the First :
Crazy Materia combo 1 : The principle of this combo is to basically make one lucky character that is, in effect, a living materia combo, which is unfortunately capable of only one basic action, but it is one which dishes out an obscene amount of damage, steals from targets, and completely refills the caster's HP and MP. Useful? Heh, heh, heh, you guessed it. Now, when used, this beyond evil combo casts Bolt 3 at random targets four times, pausing in between each hit to steal the target's sole item before they die and giving your character a nice little HP and MP boost. At the end of the four attacks, any surviving enemy is nailed with a regular attack, and then, thanks to the evil which is W-Magic, IT HAPPENS ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!! 8 Bolt 3's, 8 steal attempts, 2 attacks and more MP than it cost to cast it in the first damn place. Nice huh?
You need the following materia - Blue Materia : Quadra Magic (You can use Enemy All but with Quadra magic, it actually allowed me to steal and use Bolt eight times (When I had Quadra magic up to level 2 or more.), even though it won't target all enemies. MP Turbo and Magic Plus add more bite to the combo, which you may or may not need. HP Absorb, well, you can have it or not, up to you. Added Cut and Added Steal give you the benefit of stealing and a regular attack as well. Add in Magic Counter, and you MAY end up going straight into this combo, before your turn. Now you MUST have armour and a weapon with eight slots, and set the materia thusly : Quadra Magic + Bolt; Added Cut + Bolt; MP Turbo + Bolt; Added Steal + Bolt; MP Absorb + Bolt; Magic Counter + Bolt; HP Absorb + Bolt and W-Magic and Magic Plus. (Note : I tried it with the Forbidden Materia, and it stalled the game. Basically, just stick with either Bolt, Ice, Fire or Earth and it'll work.)
The second combo I have used is a simple one : Quadra Magic + Contain, with W-Magic. This is a nice nasty little combo, casting the spell of Contain, which does the elemental damage as well as throwing a status effect in for good measure.
The third combo, is one for boosting the effectiveness of your phyiscal attacks. Everyone knows how to use Added Effect for armour and weapons, giving the weapon the elemental effect of the Green materia, same with armour. But if you link Added Effect with, say Choco/Mog, you've effectively given the character a weapon with a high probability of casting stop on the enemy you attack with it. But when I got Hades, I used him instead of Choco/Mog, because Hades is a real nasty peice of work, since he can stick enemies with any of his seven nasty conditions. You can also link Added Effect with Contain, and get similar results.
Now, how about a Materia combo which is fun for the whole family! Pick your strongest character, and load him/her up with as much counter materia as possible. Unfortunately, you have to plan for this one early and raise lots of counter attack materia, then give them all to the lucky winner. Now, the critical materia for this combo is the Cover materia. Each time the character gets hit, they go into this combo straight away. Here's what you need : Magic Counter + Comet (Trust me, this combo works well with Comet. Extremely well actually.), Command Counter + Deathblow, Counter Attack (As many as you have!), Cover, and at least a few HP Plus. Also, if you can get a Final attack + Revive (I prefer Final Attack + Phoenix myself, but it's your call.), not only is it a perfect addition, but it also gives you the benefit of knowing if the character gets K.O., they'll come back with a LOT of hard feelings and payback. The possibilites with this combo here are endless, as you can send them into a Boss battle, having the knowledge of that the Boss will be pushing up daises, even if you actually do anything. This is a real dirty, dirty combo.
These are actually some combos I have used, and I admit, as much as I want to be credited for their creation, they were actually in the Versus Completely unauthorised Final Fantasy VII Ultimate Guide written and edited by Casey Loe. This Guide is the best guide around for FFVII, as it has the game broken up into detailed sections. If you can find a copy of it, get it!!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed with it, as it is far more superior than the Bradygames guide.
I don't normally use Guides as I consider them to be cheating, but I have to admit, with this one, there is NO STORYLINE DETAILS, NO SPOILERS AND NOTHING TO GIVE AWAY WHAT HAPPENS. (No FMV scenes or such.).
