Hi, folks! Perhaps you know some of my older gamerips I posted under the user name "Top Dollar". Since somehow my account got smashed (so, no, I wasn't naughty here or anything), I had to switch to the new name, k_bacon.
Anyway, it's been a long time since I did my last gamerip. However, I recently played the hell out of the recent MGS title, Peace Walker. I checked out the OST before, but it failed to stuck in my mind. When I played the game, I noticed that this may have been because a hell of a lot is missing. So, when Alpha23 posted his Peace Walker file rip, I decided to do an expanded gamerip album. It surely is not complete (hence the "Expanded), and I decided against including plain audio rips of the cutscenes with voices and SFX and all just to have it in. However, it still clocks in at over 2 hours, features all in-game music and even expands on the cutscene music.

Hey, a few years back I found a rip of MGS:TTS for gamecube, and if I remember correctly it was credited to you, Top Dollar. It was like the very first rip for that game to appear on the net, and was a pretty exciting considering the official ost never saw the light of the day. By the way, I think it's like the only MGS title that never had an officially soundtrack released, which is ridiculous and it is unknown what kind of crack Konami was smoking at the time.

Anyways, it good to see your work-in-progress again and I'm looking forward to it.
As well as can't wait for the HD re-release of Peace Walker on PS3 and just recently bought the MGS:PW Official Art Works, great stuff!

Thanks for your feedback, MiLO! Agreed on Twin Snakes, a pity, especially with all the good cutscene music, for example, Meryl's Theme. One COULD make an expanded version of the rip using the cutscene music from the Digital Graphic Novel, which is the same...

Glad to see you return to us TopDollar! In truth, it was your rip of Soul Reaver that had a great deal of influence on how I do my rips, and especially how I provide a little "behind the scenes" for the downloader.

I'm not much of a Metal Gear Solid fan, but I'll check this out anyways.

yes I got those... i have all possible things from this game, except those missing cues located
in the cutscenes as well as some tracks from the demo-ops version that i will rip maybe... anyway
so far i have around 730MB of data of music from this game :)

The rather odd OST selection was the reason I did this rip in the first place. Non-descript track titles, random ordering and suites combining stuff that does not belong together. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against compiling music from all over the game/movie/whatever; this approach can help a lot to improve a listening experience (Babylon 5 Vol. 2: Messages from Earth is a fine example). But on one hand, the OST maintains some kind of chronological order, just to completely lose it in other places (primarily Outer Heaven and Zero Allies!). MGS3 and MGS4 kept things in a nice coherent order, either opting to put ALL music in chronological order (MGS3) or "tell the story" by chronologically presenting the cutscene tracks first and put the in-game in a separate section.
Then there's the stuff that is missing. I especially mourn the exclusion of the Finale. What OST skips out on the finale of all things, anyway? While the first half of the Main Ops cutscene tracks is fairly well-presented, everything after reaching the US Missile Base is completely absent. We're talking about 2 chapters out of 5 here! I suspect that the music production was troubled and much of the music was simply not finished when the OST album was assembled (The Mummy Returns, anyone?). Another sign for this is that no less than 8 composers were involved, some not even from Kojima or KOnami in-house, but from independent companies altogether (Soule's Artistry company springs to mind).
So yeah, my two cents about the PW OST. All in all, while not a bad album per se, I consider it to be somewhat of a mess. Hmm...I might actually include this rant in the .pdf document :)

I managed to get a save data file with all cutscenes unlocked, so I can
now rip all the cutscene music, I will start working on it. But I am just wondering,
aside from the cutscene music, is there any other music that is not included
in Alpha's rip or the OST? If so, we need to rip those as well. Anyway, I will post
my updates and depending when you will release your expended gamerip,
I will see if you have some missing stuff or stuff that I don't have. :)

The only track I coudn't find is the loop playing when an OUTER OPS engagment hits the final phase.

Okay, the album is now finished and will be uploaded as soon as possible.

@Atenzor: Yep, I'm aware of that, I wrote about it in the .pdf file. That's why it's just "Expanded" :) However, if you can cook up something nice with the missing cutscene tracks, feel free to combine them with my rip as long as I retain the credit for my part.

I also changed the thread title to "RELEASED"....'cause the gamerip album is, uhm, released, y'know ;)

that's good man! step one is to manually rip all cutscene music,
around 36 if I counted correctly, going to take a while :)

and step 2 is to use a mix of techniques to rip that music out ;)

Guys is it possible to get the Music from when Big Boss is trying to get the pentagon on the line after Peace Walker battle 2 but before Peace Walker battle 3?

Not without SFX and dialogue, I'm afraid. It still puzzles me why they basically left out the entire last act of the game from any OST release. Well, I suppose it has something to do with the fact that a whole lotta composers contributed to this soundtrack. Wouldn't be the first time a music release gets messed up by legal entanglements between the parties involved.

Whoa - thanks for freeing the soundtrack from the ISO! Didn't expect to find a gem like that while I was looking for audio clips from PW.

Do you mean the plain/stand-alone audio as well, like codec calls, Co-ops phrases, etc? I've been scouring the web and my ISO for the past few hours to no avail - I'm not finding any audio (not even the music Top Dollar found) in there. I've tried 2 different extractors - nothing. Do you think you could tell me how you found them? Or point me in the right direction?
In the mean time, I'll keep looking. I know they're in there SOMEWHERE.
BTW - what's this about Alpha23's rip? He has a link in his sig, but the folders are empty.
