Update 10/26/2011: To download the music in MP3 format, please visit the old thread, which now contains new links in several different bit rates and qualities:

Distant Worlds: Music from FINAL FANTASY Returning Home (MP3, 320 kbps, 48.000kHz) (Thread 85196)

Update 1/31/2013: Some of the links that were here have been removed from FileFactory, and I am not gonna re-upload them. And, the links from MediaFire have been changed, but the FLAC files and Album Scans are still there. There's just one link to access them, and that link contains all available files to whatever files are left in that folder. The DVD files are still at FileFactory, surprisingly, but everything else has been removed. So sorry for the inconveniences, but uploading files period takes a very long time to just upload for me.

Hey everyone! I would like to tell you all that I already uploaded some download links for the 2 audio CD's that comes with this amazing DVD Box Set! I have ripped them directly from the discs themselves. These downloads also includes the CUE Sheets (for each disc), log files (status reports for each disc), M3U playlists, album artwork, and enlarged album scans. The DVD download links are separated from everything else, and are available just a little further down.

Okay, so now, onto the album's information. The tracklist is different from what the official Japanese website lists it as, so here is the official US tracklist and album information directly from what and how the album is listed as:

Note: Just remember that I'm no expert at ripping CD's into FLAC, or DVD's onto the computer. I did the best that I can, so please say thank you for all of this. It took me a long time to manually scan the box set myself, and to upload the files, and for XJF to rip and upload the files too.

As for the new links updated (where you see 8 parts are listed), those files where rip using DVD Decrypter from DVDVideoSoft. They have not been edited, so I would consider this rip as high quality. Please give major credits to XJF for uploading the DVD in an .iso file! Major, MAJOR thanks to you XJF!! Everyone here appreciates your time and hard work!! :)

Well, actually, I was going to rip the DVD using DVDDecrypter or by some other program, and then convert the .vob files into wma or mp4, and separate each performance, like how you would if you were to upload it to YouTube. But, I think that I just might rip the DVD and just combine all of the .vob files into one big file, like how a DVD really is. But my problem is, is which program should I use to rip the DVD? Any recommendations?

Any decent dvd ripping program should be able to rip the entire DVD as a single movie without much fuss. You might want to look into Handbrake, which is open source and available for windows/mac/linux: http://handbrake.fr/

I use linux, so I don't know what the standard is on Windows, but I know handbrake is multi-platform and I've used it in linux and it works well for me..

DVDDecrypter / AnyDVD  to rip files from DVD;
MediaCoder / MeGUI  to convert DVD-Video into format you want;

P.S. It would be awesome if you just make an .iso and upload it ^^

Okay. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try them out, and as for that .iso file you want, I'll use imgBurn to make for you. And, I'll do the best that I can, so I'll have it ready soon.

EDIT: I'm not so sure now if I can upload the whole DVD into an .iso file... not in one download, that is. The DVD's disc size is approximately 7.31 GB, and if you know of any websites that can upload files up to 8 GB, please feel free to tell me. Otherwise, I'll have to find another way of uploading all of the files online, in several parts.

Personally, I don't care for FLAC, but others do - so also thanks for that.

I know that this is quite an amount of work - so I really appreciate what you are doing.

EDIT: I guess WinRAR has an option to split a file into several .rar-archives. So a 8 GB .iso-file should make about 80 100 MB .rar-files.
EDIT2: Using a torrent would be another possibility.

WinZip also has an option to split files: Split Zip Files - WinZip Computing :: Knowledgebase (http://kb.winzip.com/kb/entry/255)
For uploading you may use Multiupload.com (http://www.multiupload.com/) or torrent.

WinZip does have the option to split files, but not for .iso files. Technically, it seems that those .iso files are apart of the extensions for compressed files, because the .iso file of the DVD is already compressed, and for some reason, my version of WinZip won't let me split the .iso file. And, I just learned that the DVD itself is not copyrighted, so I'm trying to rip the DVD in one video file, and since there's a "The Making of Distant Worlds" featurette, I'm trying to rip that video as we speak. And then I'm going to rip the 2 hours 23 minutes long concert, in AVI formats. If I do MP4, the dimensions are probably going to be small, like 320 x 240 or something. I should be able to get them uploaded soon. Sorry it's been taking so long, but my computer has been going slow, so I'm trying the best that I can, and at the fastest that I can.

If you are able to upload the complete DVD untouched, I'm willing to produce good quality, compressed MKVs for folk who can't / don't want to download the whole thing.

I'd rather like to get hold of it untouched, if at all possible... I realise it's a gigantic upload... but please, pretty please, if you could, that's be splendidly splendid. :)

To create an untouched perfect iso DVD Decrypter is recommended.
It will also eliminate the region code protection in the process, in case this one is region2.

Actually, the region code is 0. This version of the album comes directly from amazon.com, so any specifications can be viewed from that website. And, I had already decrypted the DVD by using DVD Decrypter from DVDVideoSoft, but I found out that the DVD itself isn't copy-protected, so I'm going to upload an .mp4 video file of the convert, then an .avi file of the special features that the DVD comes with, for now, so that everyone can view it. As for the .iso file, I'm going to see what websites will let me upload 8 GB of 1 file.

EDIT: Never mind about the uploading the other files. It looks like I'll have to use a different program now. Sorry for the delay everyone.

Sorry, I mean WinZip allows to split Zip file when creating archive.
You just need create Zip archive of .iso file with "No Compression" & "Split: 500MB" options. No need to split an .iso itself.

No need for that! Unless there are problems with my newly uploaded torrent, then no need. EDIT #2: I can't use torrents, because they make my computer go extremely slow, but you're more than welcome to upload the .iso file. What my main problem was all about was to rip the DVD in high quality video file, with big dimensions size, but I didn't have much luck in doing that.

Okay, well, whenever you "copy" your DVD or something. Anyways, I actually had an idea. What if I used DVD Decrypter to copy the DVD, and upload parts of the VIDEO_TS folder? I can separate the files and be able to upload them little by little. I don't mind doing it that way because it'll be easier to get the DVD online, with better quality than the one here. Even though there will most likely be a lot of parts, especially if I upload it onto MediaFire, I still think that it'll be worth it. You know what? I think I'll just do that, and you can upload the ISO file... if you want. I don't really see the difference, or understand the difference between an ISO and a VIDEO_TS folder, except that the ISO is a compression-type ext. file, like RAR and Zip.

EDIT: Like a compression-type file, except it has a different purpose than actually compressing files.

I respect your effort you putting in this, but i don't think it will work. Sometimes and especially on copy protected dvd's, there are files in the dvd structure which cannot be copied, but will be in a proper made ISO. You could always try.

But, what if the DVD itself isn't copy-protected? Will it have a chance of working? Because all you would need to do is download the 8 parts I'm uploading right now, and once you have them all downloaded, you'll just need to make a VIDEO_TS folder and put the files together. Wouldn't that work?

---------- Post added at 08:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 AM ----------

ISO has nothing to do with compression and can't be compared to file formats like RAR or ZIP.

I know that, but the reason I mentioned it was because I opened the .iso file with Winzip, and I was able to extract the files from within the file, so I thought since DVD Decrypter makes the same folders (just without making it one file), I thought that it might be the same as it was in the file. I don't know. I'nm going to do my own research, since there's a lot more to all of this high quality crap (it's not crap, just an expression of an overall thing). I'll come back as there are more links, and when I get more information on the subject.

LiquidAcid
05-19-2011, 04:10 PM
I really don't see where the problem is:
1) Extract the DVD to a single ISO file using DVD Decrypter
2) Compress the ISO file to a multi-part archive with a mature compression tool (e.g. 7zip, WinRAR)
3) Upload the split archive files
4) Share the links

So, where's the problem?

EDIT: Concerning your WinZip problem. You don't want WinZip to extract the filesystem content from the ISO, that's just not what you want. Apart from that I don't recommend using WinZip at all. The ZIP format is a major trainwreck.

I don't have WinRAR. The only program I have is WinZip. If WinRAR had a free trial or something, I'd use it. That's my problem. And I don't have money to buy WinRAR (I used it all on Distant Worlds: Returning Home and on a few other CD's).

Wait, I just checked the website, and I see that I can get it for free with TrialPay... That's how I got WinZip a year or two ago... hmm... you know what this means, right...?

Hehe again...thanks for your effort. Only way to find out if the separate files from VIDEO_TS will work is to try it :D Sometimes it just works!

WinRAR is more 'donationware' than shareware. Im using WinRAR for almost 5 years now, never had to buy it, i only got a small window saying: please pay after 30 day's of use or something like that. WinRAR doesn't limit your use if you dont pay even after 30 days. I don't know how its with the newer 4.0 version...

7zip does everything WinRAR (which does have a free trial version which never expires) does and a bit more... and is freeware... :) :) :) :)

Then just use 7zip, which is free and also can create multi-part archives. Plus it uses LZMA which outperforms RAR's modified PPMD in most cases.

@tango: AFAIK 7zip still lacks features like recovery records.

Very true. Not many people use them... I do, though! Lifesavers are recovery records.

Valiant Terra: Thank you so much for uploading the DVD. I don't want to come across as a moaning bastard and I do appreciate your effort (and remain mindful of the fact that it's something for free) but... 320x176 video, at an average bitrate 700kbps??! I have to assume this is some decision made by an automatic encoding package... Was that, by any chance, an iPod encoding preset? :)

I will say no more, other than cry quietly about the four hours downloading time...

I shall remain hopeful that the ISO turns up somehow... if and when it does I will , with your permission of course, upload a recode that makes efficient use of storage space... ;)

Yes, it was an iPod preset, I wished I would of had a better rip, but I was afraid that I would be scolded at for uploading it, but it was something for now, so that people who didn't care about the quality of the video would be able to just watch it. I'm sorry about that. I should of told the details next to the link. I will do the best that I can to upload the ISO file. I'm hoping that this uploading of the VIDEO_TS will work. I'm so hoping that it does, or else it would be a waste of time, and memory.

The contents of the VIDEO_TS folder is everything that is needed; if you're uploading that, I'll be a very happy fellow. The ISO would be unnecessary. :)

Are you planning to upload every file inside that folder separately? That'd work fine.

LiquidAcid: Which hopefully involves x264 with a sane CRF...

For HQ stuff, I tend to encode at CRF18 now. If I'm encoding a concert of some variety, I'll sometimes go to 21 or even 22 and give more bitrate to the audio.

Yes. Definitely. The first part (Part 1 of 8) contains pretty much all of the other files that aren't 1 GB each, which are the other files. Parts 2 - 8 I think, only have one file in them. I hate it when you're in the middle of uploading big files, and just when you're halfway done, there's a stupid "server error" message that interrupts your uploading progress, which happened to Parts 4, 5, and 6. Luckily, Part 7 uploaded just fine and 8 is almost done. Once all of the files are fully uploaded, if anyone tries out the files and there aren't any problems, then cool! If there are problems, then I'll upload the ISO and split the files using WinRAR, probably splitting them at 500 MB for each file. I think people will be able to download the parts better if the memory size is lower for all of the files.

I'm finally done uploading all of the parts! That was so huge of an upload! Well, just so that everyone knows, I won't be re-uploading those files ever again, at least not while my internet connection is so slow. I hope that at least someone appreciates the time and dedication I've put into it, and maybe even someone might download all parts, and not just the first 3 parts. I know that no one will download them when you got ISO's to download, but the files will always be there when you need them, unless they get deleted by FileFactory. If anyone got's a problem with that, then, well...

Valiant: If I understand correctly, your 8-part upload is simply the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder. That's just as good as the ISO; exactly the same data, just packaged up differently.

For what it's worth, I grabbed XJF's because I don't have a Filefactory account (God bless MultiUpload) and am a very happy bunny.

But I have utmost gratitude to Valiant as well... for getting this thread started (just when I thought everybody had forgot about this concert) and for uploading a FLAC copy of the main album.

This thread's been about collaboration. :)

@VT, I also have the phrase as a banner (like one that would normally say "CONGRATULATIONS", cracks me up)

Yea, VT's upload is the EXACT same thing as mine more or less. If you take my ISO you can extract the VTS folder from it. It's like buying something from a store, the VTS folder is like carrying your items out in your hand whereas the ISO is like putting them all into a bag for easier management.
Just two ways of accomplishing the same thing

Not necessarily true. You can put data into an ISO that isn't directly accesible through the ISO's filesystem itself, but could still be needed for proper playback. Copy protections is just one example where this might be true.

You're asking most likely for transcode, which is a completly different thing. Also VLC can open an DVD ISO without anything inbetween.

No, but they were ripped using DVD Decrypter from DVDVideoSoft.com. The files from FileFactory were uploaded from the VIDEO_TS folder, and all contents from that folder are within the uploaded files.

for those who are expecting, i gonna do some encoding, that will make a mkv-ver of this DVD. i'm thinking of adding both 2-channels and 5.1-channels audio in this container. therefore, the size of it will reach 2GBs or a bit bigger (video's res will be the same as the original DVD: 720*480, and 854*480 while playing). no E.T.A (but not too long) due to my exams, encoding time (normally it cost about 6~8 hours) and uploading time (i have no idea of uploading such big-size file). give me your idea of audio and wait for some works ^^.

The DVD download links will be separate from everything else, so once I convert the ripped files into one movie file, I'll post the links here, in this thread. I'm also am going to re-upload the MP3 links, so if you clicked on those links, they're dead links now.

**This file is for iPods and other portable devices, if you would like to watch it the movie from anywhere.

Please could you reupload the file 2/8 of the DVD

Yeah, it does take a long time to download, and it would make me frustrated too. It shouldn't be deleted, I checked to see if it's still there a week a go. Well, lets see then...

(5 minutes later)

I just clicked on the link, and... ooh, yikes! The file hasn't been deleted, but I guess there's some kind of bug with it or something. Hmm... I'll see what I can do. No worries, alright? It'll get resolved soon!

We'd like you to reupload the DVD ISO, but please use a free server like mediafire.
The files in Rapidshare, Depositfiles, Zshare, and Uploading.com are deleted.

Thanks so much!! I've been looking everywhere for this and found it back on FFshrine.... should have started here >3>;;; I've been listening to the CD non-stop.
I'm up to 8/8 of the DVD and I think FileFactory changed it's free download file limit to 500MB (which is weird, 'cause I downloaded 7/8 just a few hours ago), so would you mind uploading it to another site if it's not too much trouble?

Thanks again!!

You are BEYOND AWESOME for doing this! Thank you SO MUCH! I hope to go to either the next Paris or the next London Distant Worlds performance, I owe a lot of wonderful memories and strength in hard times to Mr Uematsu and his music, and to see it live would be a dream come true. So seeing it like this is half way there thanks to you. All the best -

Myles Thomas J; )

EDIT: I can confirm that parts 6,7 and 8 of 8 of the dvd are down. I'm sorry to have to ask, but could you please re-upload these part? Thanks again.
