Thanks for posting this. The sound quality on the choir is extremely disappointing. I realize much of it was recorded live but there shouldn't be this many artifacts in the choral stuff.

Why do some people always respond to criticism by a) taking it personally, b) suggesting that you have no right to consider an imperfect thing to be imperfect, and c) refusing to listen unless you have first addressed your comments directly to the producers of the album?

The James "My Shitty Recording Is Perfect Because Some Deaf People And My Best Friend And The Mastering Engineer Said So" Fitzpatrick Conan debacle is a fine example of what happens when you do make a criticism to the producers; they either pretend there isn't a problem, don't possess the necessary hearing acumen to tell whether there's a problem or not, or start criticising the parentage of the critic. Real mature, chaps.

So, on to this... The choral performance is FLAWLESS but the recording is not perfect. That it's a live recording is not a decent excuse. I can forgive a lot simply because the music is gorgeous, the performance is absolutely top notch, and the sense of occasion is unmistakeable; speaking plainly as a proud, patriotic Englishman. The Abbey is not the best place in the world (or anywhere) acoustically speaking and it's an absolute nightmare to capture a decent recording in there. But it can be done. Considering the inherent difficulties, this isn't too bad but it could be better. That is a simple statement of fact and not one that should be met with anger or ridicule.

That just makes the sub-par production quality all the more disappointing.

Quite apart from all that, don't pirate this thing, folks... buy it. It's not expensive and proceeds go to Charity. Traditional British culture is on its knees at the moment and it needs the support of us all to survive.

Nothing is here that isn't available elsewhere (with the exception of the Rutter piece, which is bound to get recorded sooner or later) - it's just that an event of this magnitude really should've been better recorded... particularly given that it was intended for album release from the beginning.

It is available on CD, although I got my copy off of Itunes, and the horrendous audio quality may be from my converting it from M4A to MP3.

I don't think we're hearing MP4->MP3 artifacts, could be wrong - need to check with a better audio system than the one I have at work...

And compare against my CD. :)
