I am interested in building up my collection of interesting versions of Prokofiev's score - particularly those with special narrators.

Any help out there?

I posted this one awhile back:

PeterAndTheWolf (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/classical-request-58159/45.html#post1515603)

It's post #1103

Hope this helps. I have another version laying around somewhere. I can't remember who narrates it but I'll try to find it. Cheers.

Thanks for those so far, here are a couple more at Internet Archive:

Basil Rathbone with Stokowski conducting the All American Orchestra from July 1941 (a great transfer from 78s by Bob Varney)

Peter and the Wolf : Restoration by Bob Varney : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/PeterAndTheWolf_753)

Jose Ferrer with Goossens and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra (Westminster LP transfer) - "Pedro y el Lobo" in Spanish from 1959

Prokofief: Pedro y el Lobo (Ferrer, Goossens) : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/ProkofiefPedroYElLoboferrerGoossens)

Both available as VBR downloads.

Enjoy ;-)

Here is the version recorded with Sean Connery - apparently put down during a break from the filming of THUNDERBALL - with Antal Dorati and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It is quite spectacularly recorded hailing from Decca's Phase 4 period.

There are 4 files:

Has any body seen either the Christopher Lee version with Yehudi Menuhin/English String Orchestra or the Sophia Loren with Kent Nagano and the Russian National Orchestra?

I used to have an LP of David Bowie narrating...it was great...I'll look for it.

Here is a curious one from 1975 narrated by Viv Stanshall and featuring a rock line-up (Manfred Mann/Gary Brooker/Chris Spedding/Gary Moore/Stephane Grappelli/ENO/Keith Tippett/Jack Lancaster/Jon Heisman/Bill Bruford/Cozy Powell/Phil Collins). It is more of a concept album using both the original storyline and the musical themes by Prokofiev. A real curate's egg. 2 good sounding FLAC files.

Here is David Bowie’s charming and gentle reading in MP3-320. Interestingly, he was RCA's third choice to narrate after both Alec Guinness and Peter Ustinov turned the project down, though I would love to hear them too. Credit to the original posters.

Very nice. Some people, I also heard, liked the one narrated by Sterling Holloway for the Disney version. Still, these are all great finds.

Not to sound too plebeian, but does anyone have a copy of the Disney version, narrated by Sterling Holloway, that came from "Make Mine Music" (1946)? Thanks!
