I believe Maliris is the one that uses the Raining Swords as a final attack. I'll vote Maliris because that Raining Swords is very tough, especially when you're playing for Excalibur II.
Enkidoh

Hmmm. Tough choice. Both are from pervious FF games - The Antlion from FFIV and Marliris from FFI (in the original NES version of FFI he or she was called 'Kary'), but I'd probably say Marliris, because it's a more challenging boss. Raining Swords is pretty hard, but if you missed sything one earlier, you can steal the Masamune from Marliris.
So, the Fire Fiend for me.

The main reason for that would be that I dind't equip Clear Headed on anyone (that and I had Garnet in my party :p), but after that I managed it. Still a good boss though. I didn't even consider the Prison Cage to be a boss to be honest.

Ark! He has all sorts of cool moves and like Meltigemini mentions, it also helps to have certain abilities on or he can really mess you up. You also get a Pumice Piece for beating him (halfway to the actual Ark summon) and you can also steal a nice lance for Freya. Prison Cage? What is Prison Cage? Yeah, not even worth talking about really. You'd have to be pretty inept to lose to that.

Ark.
Nothing like having to fight a huge undead airship at the bottom of an ancient ruin for a boss! Sure, it may be hard to fight (especially with no magic, courtesy of Oelivert's anti-magic seal), but the Holy Lance you can steal from it, plus the Pumice Piece you get for defeating it is sweet.
Prison Cage was just an anonoying time-waster. So, Garnet's ultimate Eidolon for me.

Ozma. It has an unusual design, it's extremely hard (particulary if you haven't completed the 'friendly monsters' quest, it cuts your party to ribbons), and the Pumice you win, plus the Dark Matter you can steal from it is worth it.
P.S. Anybody notice Ralvuimago's appearence in FF Unlimited chasing Cid and co in exactly the same way it did to Zidane and co in FFIX?
Well, that was quite the easy win. Ozma wins 5-1. Thanks for voting.

Definetely Black Waltz no 3. It's the hardest of the lot, and just like some magical Terminator, seems near unstoppable, even after crashing into South Gate and ending up on the cablecar's railway tracks. It still keeps on coming with single-minded intent. Eventually it recalls only one directive. KILL.
Tiamat was cool, not to mention hard, and, like the rest of the Terra Guardians, were all reoccuring characters from the original FF, which I really liked, Black Waltz no 3 was the best.

Well, there goes Tiamat. Thanks for voting. BM#3 wins.
Oh, and I made mistake in the opponent of Ozma. The guy that chases you through Fossil Roo is not Ralvuimago. The guy is called Armodullahan and isn't really a boss. So we're going to run the Ozma battle again. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If you equip any of the bloodstones you obtained in the Desert Palace to any characters, he will raise one of his stats by a lot and the battle won't be easy, that's for sure.)
I don't think that's how it works. It's the less bloodstones you find, the more powerful he is. If you find all of them, he's like ultra-weak and sucky and that's why I didn't vote for him. But I've tried fighting this boss before without having found any of the bloodstones and he's way more powerful. So it has to with the bloodstones you find, not whether or not you equip the items that come from the bloodstones. Actually, some of the items are quite helpful, like the one that lets Vivi cast Water because this boss is weak against Water.

Black Waltz #1 is a twit who is weaker than his minion. I mean, honestly, if you want anyone to take you seriously as a villain, you can't be weaker than your own pet monster. "Oh, hear I am, I'm this big evil villain, but wait, let me summon this this monster that's even stronger than me in case I can't finish you." Sorry, doesn't work like that.

A close one for once. Soulcage pulls through 2-1. Thanks for voting. And I've chosen a final boss sort of enemy to pit against Necron...
Last up for Round 1...
Necron (The final boss of the game. It's only in oneform which screws up tradition and it really isn't the expected final boss which screws up tradition also but anyway...difficult for some, easy for others.)

Baku (Tantalus leader. You fight him at the beginning of the game as Zidane, Blank, Marcus and Cinna and then after Garnet goes missing in the Evil Forest you fight Baku again for permission to leave the ship to find her. Beatrix here!
Well, that was easily decided. Beatrix wins, thanks for voting.

Ark

Silver Dragon
Might be a tough choice. Begin!
Agent0042
10-11-2003, 02:20 AM
Hmm. Both actually aren't all that tough if you're properly prepared for the battles. I guess I'll go for Ark. Silver Dragon was actually just a warmup really for Garland and Kuja (not that either of those were that tough either.) Ark has the Photon attack which can reduce a character to 1 HP. I'd say Ark is also a tougher battle if you're going for Excalibur II. Finally, you can steal the Holy Lance off of Ark and win a Pumice Piece. So I'm going for Ark.
Vivi FF
10-11-2003, 04:18 PM
Yeah, I vote for Ark. I like him better over the Silver Dragon.
Well, I was waiting for more votes, but it's enough for Ark to win. Thanks for voting.

Trance-Kuja
Whew sorry I'm late, school issues etc... made me forget. Trance Kuja ends, thanks for voting again. Let's get this round over with, and into the better battles.

Agent0042

Ozma. Black Waltz #3 may be mega-bad and programmed only to kill and stuff, but he has to go eventually.
Oh, and after whoever it was posted it about how in the second battle with him after you get off the train, he won't attack Dagger at all, I went ahead and checked it out. It's really sad really. You just kill off Steiner and Marcus and after that he just starts sputtering and ends up taking damage himself until he dies without you having to do anything. I lost a lot of respect for him after watching that.
Draven

Black Waltz #3 = cool
Vivi FF
10-21-2003, 11:23 PM
Black Waltz #3. Sure he was easier but he's alot cooler and had a bigger role in the storyline then some ball.
Black Mage Numero Three. Just because of the impact he had on the storyline. And the fact that he's actually fair to beat.
Squall_90182
10-23-2003, 10:30 PM
Black Mage numer three because he actually looked cool and had a part of the story. Omza just looked stupid and he had nothing to do with the story.
Well, that settles that. Black Waltz #3 wins. Thanks all, for the votes.
And with that, the end is in sight.
Round 4: Semi Finals

Agent0042

I guess it has to be Trance-Kuja for me. Ark can be really easily if you properly prepare, but Trance-Kuja's moves are still kinda tough even if your party's strong. Plus, he looks cooler.
I have a feeling Trance Kuja's gonna win, but I'm going to go with Ark. Battle wise, Ark was quite hard, I found TK to be a walkover compared to Necron. Otherwise, while TK Ultima'd Terra, I prefer Ark's summon.
FaerieLady
10-25-2003, 11:48 PM
I though Ark was too easy to beat so just for that....I will go with....Trance Kuja!!!
Besides, as Agent 0042 said, he looks a hell of a lot cooler! Who ever thought fighting an inanimate object (ark) would be thrilling was on crack.....I prefer to fight the evil bastards anyday!

It's a blowout. Trance-Kuja, once so strong, falls so easily. Very unexpected by me personally. But alas, that's what rumbles are all about. So the winner is...
BEATRIX

"I commend your courage, but I will show you no mercy."
So what should we do now? Enemies? Minor characters?
Agent0042
11-03-2003, 12:20 AM
Oh, thank you for showing that picture, I love that picture! Okay, let's see. Yes, enemies might be a good choice, there are some pretty interesting enemies in FFIX. Minor characters could be good too, although I think quite a few of the good choices were already used in the main character rumble, but there are still quite a few left. I think I'd prefer enemies first though.
Ok then, enemies it is. I have chosen 32 good enemies to do, so let's get started...
Round 1: Begin
The contenders for Rumble #4 are:
Abadan
Adamantoise
Antlion
Armstrong
Behemoth
Bomb
Cactuar
Cerberus
Dracozombie
Epitaph
Fang
Gimme Cat
Grand Dragon
Hedgehog Pie
Iron Man
Jabberwock
Lizard Man
Malboro
Mistodan
Movers
Nymph
Ochu
Red Dragon
Ring Leader
Sand Golem
Stilva
Tonberry
Veteran
Yan
Zaghnol
Zemzelett
Zuu
And without further ado, the first 2 up are...
Nymph (Green weird monster found around the Daines-Horse Basin on the 1st continent I believe. Careful about her Fira attack)
vs
Tantarian (The monster you kept fighting as Steiner and Beatrix in Alexandria. They fall pretty easily, and allow Steiner to catch up on the levelling up. Paper Storm is the only worthy mentionable attack they have)

Nymph! Such a cool monster plus was once the name of a great person. :D
Agent0042
11-07-2003, 11:11 PM
Wha? Sorry, but I have to interrupt here. Tantarian is not the monster that Steiner and Beatrix keep fighting in Alexandria. Tantarian is the semi-boss monster that you have to fight should you choose to examine the book in Alexandria Castle's library. In addition to Paper Storm, a very dangerous attack that takes a lot of HP off of all of your characters, he also uses Poison attacks and a strong physical attack called "Edge," plus he has the ability to use "Doom" on your characters. And he's nearly invincible against attacks unless you can get the book to open.
The enemy that Steiner and Beatrix have to fight in Alexandria (and you also have to fight them when heading down the Iifa tree as Kuja sends them after you) is called Mistodon. And assuming that's what was meant, I'll vote for that because I actually lost to them once due to their ability to cause Sleep and I wasn't prepared for it. Never really messed around much with the Nymph's other than to learn Quina's "Night" ability. Not really memorable.
My Vote: Mistodon (assuming that's what was meant)
I think this needs to be started again, with the real monster clarified. Whichever way, I vote against Nymph.
Yeah yeah Mistodan, that's it. No need to give too much info Agent, I just pulled the monsters out of my head from what I remember from the game.
By the way, we're tied so we still need another vote.

Next up...
Abadan (You fight it in Pandemonium to the theme of You're Not Alone I believe. Not unbelievably tough, though I'd be careful of High Wind)
vs
Dracozombie (Baddie in the Iifa Tree and many places on the Forgotten Continent. This guy's easy, though it's annoying when he does Lv5 Death)

Yeah, I guess you're right, I do tend to go on a bit.
Anyway, my vote too is for Abadon. Dracozombies were annoying. I usually just tried to run from them because they took too long to fight and were too annoying and didn't really give good EXP or anything.
Ok then, Abadan easily wins that one. Thanks for voting.
Next up...
Gimme Cat (Weird monster this one. Found around the Salvage Archipeligo (forgotten continent) and doesn't give that much money. Careful of that annoy "I'm Mad" attack)
vs
Zemzelett (Not too sure where to find it...generally, it's on the Outer Continent. Anyway, it's the bird from FF7 that you got White Wind off and you can get it off it here too. He's apparantly learned some new tricks like Rainbow Wind)
Begin!
Agent0042
11-16-2003, 07:46 PM
Gimme Cats are stupid. They try to masquerade as a "friendly" monster and ask you to give them a Diamond. If you give it to them, they just make off with it and laugh at you. If you attack them, they start hitting you with magic.
I vote for Zemzelett.
Zemzeletts are boring. Gimme Cats were annoying, but funny.
One vote for Gimme Cat.

White Wind rocks!
Gimme Cats, I remember fighting them a lot while playing ffix, but I can't really remember why...
Well, Gimme Cat scrapes through 3-2. Thanks for voting. I didn't really like Gimme Cats either but oh well.
Next up...
Adamantoise (Found around the Forgotten Continent in general. It's large and looks like it always does, except it was smaller in FF8 for some reason. Anywho, careful of Limit Glove, which reduces a party member's HP to 0)
vs
Jabberwock (Found in the same area, roughly the same amount of HP and has the same annoying attack as Adamantoise)
Battle of equals...Begin!
Vivi FF
11-18-2003, 08:43 PM

If Gimme Cats annoyed you, then I hate to think what Jabberwocks did.

*doesn't remember what the jabberwock is*
Adamantoise.
Agent0042

I don't remember the Jabberwocks either. I don't remember Adamantoises being able to use Limit Glove either, but if it has it, then Quina must be able to learn it from it. That's cool, so I vote for Adamantoise.
Ah well, Adamantoise does have that attack if I remember correctly. And it wins anyway. Thanks for voting.
Next up...
Hedgehog Pie (heh, pie. I believe they're in the Eunoris Plains...that's first continent for those who don't check their location too often. Pumpkin Head is their only mentionable attack)
vs
Ring Leader (That circus guy in Terra. Usually travels in pairs I believe...not really many annoying attacks, except Virus Powder...damn that attack)
Begin!
I've always liked a bit of Hedgehog pie..... expecially with icecream.

vs
Cerberus (Three headed dog thingy monster thing found in Ipsen's Castle (Ignore my 7:15am use of words :P) Umm, despite the fact you fight it with your weak weapons, they have lots of HP cause, well you know. It uses Flame, a fire based attack, and a few minor ones.)

Bomb (Well, you see it on the ship leaving Alexandria first. It's red and it blows up...nuff zed)
vs
Fang (One of the first monsters you fight...umm, I put it in because it's called Fang and it's attack is called Fang. Homourous, and it gets you a lot of experience to level up with (well, it's a lot back then))
Begin!

Heh. I like humour like that.
Bombs... because bombs are just great in every final fantasy game. Every time I see them, I'm like "oh shit" and breakin out the ice magic.
Vivi FF

Bomb!
Well, that ends that. Bomb wins easily. Thanks for voting.
Next up...
Stilva (This guy you may remember from FF7 cause he looks cool. He looks about the same actually. Found in Memoria. Not really special attacks, watch for Firaga. He's learnt a few new tricks apparantly.)
vs
Red Dragon (This guy is a HP drainer no matter how prepared you are. Aerial Slash takes a tonne of HP off. You have to verse one or two of these (more if you want items) but luckily you don't encounter them randomly.)
Begin!
Agent0042
11-28-2003, 03:04 AM
FFIX's Stilva wasn't nearly as cool as FFVII's Stilva. That's why have to vote for the Red Dragons. Not only are they a challenge, but you can also learn Blue Magic for Quina from them. Red Dragon!

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR?"
Me: "... Point."
So Red Dragon it is.
Vivi FF
11-28-2003, 04:48 PM
Red Dragons get my vote. Those were hilarious, crashing through the volcano at you. :D
I'd go with Red Dragon, only for the reason that I found them one of the hardest monsters in the game, including the bosses. Stilva was quite frankly a walkover.
Wouldn't it be funny if they called something a Blue Dragon or whatever and the Blue Dragon was Green or Black or something...actually I've seen that somewhere before. Anywho, it's a decimation, Red Dragon wins 5-0. Thanks for voting everyone.
Next up...
Tonberry (Yep, you guessed it, looks roughly the same from FF7 and 8. Still has the lethal attack Knife. In fact, besides HP, the only change in the little guy is location, it's in Ipsen's Castle)

Behemoth (Well, this guy's renown for showing up on the last disc only and here we are again, in Memoria. Lots of HP, tough as always. But now he uses Meteor lol, that's all that's really changed, besides HP and looks)
vs
Zuu (Also from previous FF games, but it's always a big bird. The only change, well, it's HP seems to be almost exactly the same as FF7, but now it can take a character out of comission by swallowing them)
And with that, Begin!

Hmm? Grand Dragons don't have LV5 Death! Grand Dragons are killed by LV5 Death! You can find them at Popos Heights too, an area you find if you climb up the vines in the place with the two moogles in love. Grand Dragons are a great way to not only gain lots of levels early in the game (if you don't have LV5 death, you can still kill them if you can score one of Quina's Pumpkin Head blue magic and then "Eat" on them) and also build up Freya's Dragon Crest ability.

Epitaph is lame, I don't usually care much for monsters that use instant death attacks. Plus, it can be killed instantly with a Soft, that's so weak. I vote for Zaghnol, it was cool.

I vote for Epitaph. I loved fighting my own characters! :D Except when it's the same character as one in my party...

Zaghnol
I liked fighting my own characters too, but the vote swings the other way, Zaghnol is the victor, thanks for voting...now let's get this unusually long round over with.
If you're smart, you know that the last rumble for the round is...
Sand Golem (You know how long it took me to kill this guy? I was fighting forever before I knew you could move the cursor down and attack the core ;). He uses Sandstorm...moderately annoying if HP is low. He's only found in Cleyra's trunk.)
vs
Armstrong (Found all around the forgotten continent, on all terrain, this guy with roughly 4000HP is quite a joke to fight at any time. His one threatening attack is Cannon...which halves a party member's HP, but it's no threat whatever amount of HP you have because he usually dead after one or two cannons.)

I honestly don't really remember Armstrong at all. My vote goes to Sand Golem.

Sand Golem but I hated both of them.
Wasn't Armstrong that house-looking thing with the cannon?
Yes it was.
And I vote for Sand Golem.

I did encounter Armstrong, I just didn't remember it. I do now. It has a Blue Magic skill, Matra Magic.
I vote for Yan. I had hoped to see Gimme Cat out the first round.
Gimme Cat scrapes through 3-2 (assuming bewareofkow voted for Gimme Cat...say the damn name next time) so thanks for voting.

Nymph!
How come in all of the Rumbles I am usually the only one voting for the loser? I'm not doing that on purpose, you know...
Maybe because...nah don't worry. Nymph did well last round too. Anywho, Red Dragon wins again, thanks for voting.
Next up...

How come in all of the Rumbles I am usually the only one voting for the loser?
Hmm, I've been on the losing side in a few battles recently too.
Anyway, my vote is for Grand Dragon. So cool. Adamantoise in this game wasn't all that great.
