I enjoy FFVI quite a bit. Still working on it. It's proving to be a very good challenge. More so then even FFVII. So, no, it doesn't shit me.

You didn't like it? You didn't like it?
Wow, that just blows my mind. I thought it was a great game. Granted, it wasn't like other Square games, where there's a main leader person (Terra somewhat, but not really), but so what? Man, you must have played blind and deaf to think it wasn't good.
Give some examples if you're going to gripe about it at least. There must have been something specific.

I have no idea what "Shitting me" means. FF6 is the greatest RPG that will ever be made.

read the thread locke and you will find out what shitting means...
Anyway o_O how can't you not like ff6? It's one of the best FF games. Sure it hasn't got the ps2 looks, but looks never should come first.
The story, the gameplay is great and kefka makes a reason on his own :D

FF6 always struck me as not being very final fantasy-ish. Sure, it seemed like a Square RPG but it just seemed different. The lack of a main character, the sheer amount of characters and espers, some aspects of the gameplay. Sure it's a great game, but FF5 out-FFs FF6 (if you understand what I mean). But still a great play.

Hehe, mabye if you played it back in the golden days when it first came out, you might have had more respect for it.
You gotta be a complete dumb ass if you think that FF6 sucks because it is one of the greatest rpg's of all time.
You may have your own opinion and I respect that but man...you dislike FF6??? God, that's the first time i've heard of someone says that they don't like it.

Curse anyone who doesnt like this game and double curse if they have no reason. I mean if anything play to watch the evil yet sometimes funny super villian. Kefka is the reason to play any game.

I'd say there were some less-than-great elements in it, but hey, there are less-than-great elements in all the FF games. That doesn't make them bad. For Final Fantasy VI, I'd say it was the lame subquest where you had to fly around the airship to all-creation to get one of the Espers and also the thing with Celes and the whole fishing thing. I also wasn't that impressed with the ending. But there was so much great stuff. Kefka and a bunch of really great music and many other strong points.
Nanaki XIII

The ending was neat cuz all 3 times i played this game through it was different because I usually didnt get all my charcters back at the end. Only the 3rd time I played did I have every character and saw the true ending. So that was cool :)
Agent0042
01-26-2003, 01:41 AM
Yeah. I was actually thinking more of the second half than the first half. The first half, with all of the individual characters is neat. The second half I thought was just sort of lame, with the exception of the fact that I loved the music for the credits.
well...i didn't like FF6 all that much either. it was good, but it wasnt as jaw droppingly great as everyone here says it is.
Shining Force 1 and 2 are much better

There's just no pleasing some ppl. FF6 wasn't that diffrent...fine it was the first game where the characters had pre-rendered classes. It was the first to envolve technology. But to say it was thewordt FF! I respect you for voicing an opinion that could recive heavy arguments but i disagree!

I liked the game, but it just seemed to me they strong it out wayyy too much, it could definitely have been more enjoyable to me a bit shorter x_X

I enjoyed the game. There was a strong storyline for the first half of the game, and the second half's non-linearity made it very refreshing compared to some of the other games I've played. I don't think Kefka was that great a villain - although his motives were pretty cool. I got into Edgar and Sabin's two characters, and basically built my party around those two.
Alas, I had already been corrupted by Final Fantasy VII before VI had even been released in the UK. Nevertheless, it's in the top three fighting between VII and X for 1 - 3 respectively.

I think that of all the FF games, 6 was definitely one of my top 2 favorites. I don't know if I would have felt the same if I had started having played 7 or 8 and THEN played 6, but at that time in my life there was no other game that had really captured me the way that one did, so it will always hold a special place in my heart :D .

Well, I haven't played the game, but I do hear it's supposed to be one of the best FF's. I probably wont get it for a long while, I don't have enough money. I just have one question, how does the esper system work?
Agent0042
02-02-2003, 05:00 AM
It's sorta like a magic/summon tie-in system. A character junctions with an Esper (okay, so it isn't called "Junction" but I don't remember what exactly it is called, and I'm trying to make an analogy with FFVIII) and then they can learn certain magics after fighting so many battles. This is really the best reason to use the Espers. You can also summon them, but most of the summons themselves are actually pretty lame.
Nanaki XIII
02-02-2003, 07:48 AM
you also get stat bonuses with them when you lvl.
Like if you have Bahamut equipped then when you lvl you get +50% HP bonus. Thats why if you do a low lvl game once you get the espers and start lvling with them youll have God Stats.
Seto56
02-02-2003, 12:23 PM
It's kinda simillar to the mataria system except if you keep some magicite with a person long enough they learn the magic spells for good!
Black Mage#1

I see, that's preaty cool, epecially bahamut.
Agent0042

Except I don't remember Bahamut being one of the summons in FFVI.
Nanaki XIII
02-03-2003, 12:47 AM
Wow Agent I cant believe you missed the best esper in the game.
Not only does it teach Flare, and
awesome spell fairly quickly, but it also
has the greatest level up bonus in the game,
in my opinion.
You find Bahamut after beating Doom Gaze in the
airship in the World of Ruin.

I don't think Kefka was that great a villain - although his motives were pretty cool.
This was the reason i didn't like FFVI much, i thought Kefka was a pretty crap villain. Did he even have any motives? I have played the game though twice and unless i have missed something i could never work out what his motives were.
Nanaki XIII
02-09-2003, 01:45 AM
No villian really has a motive, they just want power and to take over the world. In Kefkas case he was expeiment gone bad so he went crazy. Once he found ou tthe secret of the magacite he yearned for its power and than more of it and then finaly took over the world. And if you dont think this witty villian who was one of the only to take over the world, betray everyone around him and still be funny is any good then Im interested what a villian has to do to be good.
Agent0042
02-09-2003, 02:06 AM
I didn't think the guy needed a motive because he was insane. Who knows? Perhaps he did have a motive and we just didn't get to see it. Who knows what makes certain people tick? Maybe he was just really crazy guy who didn't like people and wanted to destroy everything. Remember? He wanted to "create a monument to nonexistence."

I just hate villains who do things for no reason at all. I also think that villains who are funny aren't very good either because you can't take them seriously. But everyone has different opinions about what they like in a villain.
But don't get me wrong i don't hate FF6, infact it is one of my favorites and i loved the story. I also think it had some of the best character development of any RPG.

Aren't you supposed to hate them?
Oh well...
I think that Squaresoft would have had a perfect game if they had a few elements from two other games:
Seiken Densetsu 2 or 3/Secret of Mana or 2
And
Breath of Fire I
I think that the RPG attack system in The Secret of Mana series was the best way.
It wasn't the traditional attack system of FF, where you just press a button and it does the attacking for you, and yet it wasn't the "hack-the-other-guy-into-peices" style that Legend of Zelda had either. It was a combination of the Two...
And there was a very small element from BoF 1(Breath of Fire) that I thought was a really cool idea.
In case you didn't know, in Bof 1 there was an island on the northern part of the map, where you can gain 9999 Exp. pts and 99999 gp, every time you kill this giant slime thing.
It was the best way to get plenty of experience right before you go off to beat the main boss...
I know there was the a place in FF6 where you could spend the better part of a month getting up to level 99, but I think that takes too long, and it's really boring (especially if you don't have an emulator to increase the game speed.)
Other than that the game was the best I have ever played...ever ever ever ever ever ever...
Agent0042

I never tried to get to level 99 in FFVI. It would have taken way too long and been too boring and there really isn't any incentive for it. Oh, and by "hate," I think that Lakefather meant that he found him lame, rather than any actually feeling of hate.

*FF8 Spoilers*
What about Ultimecia? Why did she want to achieve time compression? I don't know, and I played the game to the end. Maybe she was just as crazy. Maybe she just wanted to see all the pretty colors that came with time compression. Maybe she just wanted to be left the hell alone. Beats me.
*FF8 Spoilers are over. Continue reading.*
Kefka didn't need a reason. He was just friggin' insane, like Agent0042 said. Why else would anyone want to take over the world just to kill everyone else? 'Cuz it's fun? Maybe.
Kefka just kicks ass. I mean, he was the most effective villain. He achieved his goal of world domination. And part way through the game, might I add. That there is a good villain, in my opinion. And the laugh. The Laugh!!! So psychopathically maniacal.
Although I will say that as a last boss, he was way too easy. He didn't even attack me. I just Ultima'd his ass to death. Simple as that.

Kefkas tower bosses were harder than him, maybe cuz it was 3 of them at a time. Anyways, the only villians I can think of that completed there plan of world domination was Kefka and Gannondorf so 2 out thousands of villians makes them very special. Not to mention he looked like a clown.
And yes I think this has been repeated many times he was just insane, however he didnt become insane until after his magitek infusion experiment.

lol thats what i meant.
What about Ultimecia?
I didn't like her either, to me it felt like she was just thrown in at the end.
I think the reason i like complex villains who have motives is because i read alot of fantasy books and i have got used to the way villains are written.
Oh yeah i have heard that you can change Odin into Raiden, is this true and if so is Raiden any good?
Masakari
02-10-2003, 07:23 PM
Raiden lets you learn quick, which enables you to cast magic twice or attack twice o_O so I'd say it's worth it, even though I don't use magic if I get up to level 80 or so o_O
