Lossless rips of the audio track(s) contained on the DVDs, I suppose. About the LOTR: Complete Recordings... Along with the "standard" CDs you get also DVDs that have tracks stored in 5.1 surround format.

DVD-Audio is encoded with MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) and are playable only on DVD-A compatible players (Oppo and Denon are the best, but there some older Pioneer models that scores fairly weel too). There's a tool that can decode the DVD-A MLP audio to WAV. The LOTR Complete Recordings, besides the CDs, a DVD was packed with the complete score on a single disc (single-sided dual-layer for the first two films and dual-sided single-layer for third film) that containded both 2.0 and 5.1 audio in MLP at 48kHz/24-bit and also DVD-Video compatible Dolby Digital... ;)

Yeap! They are official DVD-Audio 5.1 rips from bonus DVD from Complete Recordings. So NO SFX. They are like on CD but with a HIGHER quality.

These DVD-Audios are rips in FLAC so u can listen them on foobar2000 or what you always use for lossless. But if u want i can upload images of DVD-Audio to burn them on DVD.

I'm somewhat interested in the images. Though these FLACs play really well on their own.
I understand that FLAC is a high-quality compression with no loss of quality.
Technically speaking, however, just how much different is it to have the images as apposed to the FLACs?
If they're DVD-9's, that's a lot to download. And with the current download server (Fileserve), that'll be a lot of captchas to monitor, even on JDownloader.
If the quality is in fact more superior to the FLACs (that is if the FLACs =/= DVD), I'll put my vote in for the images.
but I need a more technical review rather than convenience for typical playback (as my puters are setup to the sound system and the FLACs playback flawlessly).

I am happy with the FLACs :)
I'm not even sure any of my dvd players or the bluray player im getting for xmas can handle DVD-A. none of the manuals specify, so I'm going to be safe and say no.

My dvd player can play DTS-CD's though.
So I might even decompress the FLACs and convert them to DTS-CD's for the dvd player.

@ porko: some people prefer mp3 for different reasons - less space & ability to put on itunes/ipods seem to be the biggest reasons around here though im sure theres others 2.

---------- Post added at 09:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:29 PM ----------

but youre right, FLAC does sound better as it is lossless.

Why is everyone asking about mp3 when he posted mp3 versions (except for the Trilogy Box Set)?
He's got both lossless and lossy uploads.

All this talk about mp3 makes me think...

phenomangel

I didn't ask for anything. I was just responding to Porky's comment regarding FLAC being better than MP3& giving my opinion. But to answer your question Sparktank, there are reasons people are asking for mp3s.

1. maybe mp3 links are dead - I have everything in FLAC so I have not clicked the mp3 links so I don't know if they're dead or not

2. Maybe they want the Trilogy Set in mp3.

for those who are asking about mp3, download what is here in mp3 & in the case of the Trilogy set, download the FLAC version & convert it to mp3 using foobar or DVD Videosoft. Both are excellent converters & can convert to other formats as well - WAV is lossless so you won't lose any quality.

Pidgeon
12-23-2010, 04:49 PM
In my opinion, lossless is the way to go...

It is the future (you can already see that in Blu-ray Discs), and in 10 years lossy formats will probably be used much less than now.

However I can understand that for someone mp3 would be a better choice, because of the reduced file size.

But once you have transcoded it, there is no way to return back to the original quality :).

Maybe they want a different encode. 320kbps Constant bitrate is useless nowadays, it takes too much space, even from a lossy point-of-view. VBR is the way to go when encoding in MP3.

"but sometimes FLAC dosen't work on Windows Media Player"

no offense but i never thought people were still using wmp. VLC plays everything - FLAC, mp3. and everything else. plays every video codec too - avi, mkv, etc. and as far as i know, takes up less space than wmp, which doesn't play everything. so for me, VLC is the way 2 go - smaller size meani g less space, plays all.

Have a big request here: In the extended editions, DVD and Blu-Ray, there are an additional 10 or 15 minutes of credits of all the members of the LOTR club. There's a bit of new music here and there in that part. I was wondering if someone could rip them from Blu-Ray. I already ripped FOTR and I'll see if I can give it to you guys, but I want TTT and TROTK, and I haven't found a good copy that does have them.

I got this set elsewhere in a torrent, which I attest is much more efficient to distribute than separate split files. Now I've noticed (especially at the first page of comments) that there is confusion on the DVD Audio portion, okay, I've listened to several of the DVDA tracks in Stereo and in Multichannel with an HDMI lossless passthrough from my PC, it sounds positively outstanding! This music was processed with alot of reverb to make it sound huge in the movie, and it does sound good on album, but playing it in multichannel AND lossless to boot it is amazing! Play these files with Foobar2000 and set in windows audio mixer output settings to 48khz Sample Rate and 24 Bit, this will prevent windows sound mixer from reprocessing the audio. You may also need to bump up your Buffer Length to 4000 more or less, too low and it will affect sound quality. One more thing, if you want to get the most out of this have a medium to high end speaker system.

But I am wondering if people have the Film Versions of any tracks...namely: TWO TOWERS: Warg Attack (with sections of FELLOWSHIP's Bridge of Kazad Dum and Orthanc), Nazgul Attack (when Nazgul attacks Osgiliath after The Ents take out Orthanc), RETURN of the KING: film edit of Lighting the Beacons/Invading Osgiliath (intercut) and The Parting of Sam and Frodo intercut with Faramir's Sacrifice.

Quick question here, I've been working on cleaning up my music backups and for the first pass I just ran all the files through HashMyFiles and deleted the duplicated. But later I ran into exact audio duplicates (i.e., the tags were different but the audio md5 hash of the files were the same according to foobar2000) which HashMyFiles didn't catch because of different tags. Is there a program out there that will hash only the audio portion of flac/ape/mp3 files for comparison? Thanks!

You can do it with FLAC Frontend: FLAC to WAV. No codec needed. Very simply to use. If you want details - just ask me.

Would anyone happen to have the FLAC rips hosted on a site other than oron?... Like maybe rapidshare or megaupload?

Patrixus
09-30-2011, 08:18 PM
Deakul has right!!! Oron is a nightmare: slow and you need to wait more than 1 hour between downloads. Megaupload is doing the same job: big fragments for upload, good speed and no waiting between downloads.

One vote to have here the DVD-As too.
Thank you!

Why don't you do it yourself? All you have to do is download these files, download and install a file converter and convert them all by yourself...I suppose that could be problematic if you don't have storage space to download the FLAC files...

Hello. Sorry if my questions is already answered here, but I don't want to read the whole topic at this late hour. :D

First of all, which audio format do the DVDs of the complete recordins have, ac3/dts? Is Could someone by any chance post a link to the AC3/DTS files (flac is too big fin my opinion, and I'm more than happy aith ac3.

holunder2
04-10-2012, 02:06 AM
@ bollemanneke: The rips are from DVD-Audio, a special format only for music with lossless compression and higher-as-CD bit depth: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Audio
The original rips were encrypted and in a special codec, the files in this forum are convert to FLAC in a lossless process. If you don't want to download the big FLAC files with 24 bit here then download the MP3s.

There are many links in this thread, so I don't know which one you are trying.

I have just tried one of them, and it does display a Captcha.

Maybe your browser is supressing it ?.

Have you tried using Jdownloader to download it ?.

Also, Porko has not been here for months so don't hold your breath if you are expecting a re-upload elsewhere.

Thnx for quick replies - after some more digging im thinking its not the pw. The error 7-zip gives me is an "unspecified error" - Would that mean a corrupt file instead ??? im going to have to redownload it it seems. Since the error is given right at the beginning im thinking that part 1 is corrupt, had it given me the error later on i would think that part1 is OK - anyone concur with this reasoning? Cant believe im tryint to unrar LOTR rather than study for my exam today.

Ok, when I have some difficulties with 7zip files (after, of course I tried to use 7 zip - the stable version-), I use ALL the time this program : hjsplit 3.0 (google is your friend).
it's free, easy to use and very efficient.
try to join all these parts into one big file .
Then Try to unzip this big file with the correct password.
i'm sure it will work !

of course if one of your part is corrupted it won't work... too bad we don't have the same system as inside WinRAR program : sometimes you can't be sure which part is corrupted with 7zip....

tokitoki23
09-13-2012, 01:56 PM
Just came back a few hours ago from my exam - noticed that one of the files does not have the appropriate size. I suspect thats giving me the unspecified error, i tested it out by creating an multipiece archive of a movie file into different pieces and then deleting one piece. 7-zip gave the same error in the same pattern (i.e. right at the start unlike winzip which gives error when it actually gets to the missing file). So downloading the couple of suspect small parts, see how it goes. Fingers crossed, even during the day i cudnt cocnentrate on the damn mcq cause of this.

UPDATE - Redownloading the smaller file allowed joining of the parts without any errors. So that was it, it seems. Rocking while listening to the hd music. Its amazing, thanks to the original poster.

Please, be more specific.
Which file is "corrupted" at your end : ... return of the king ? the two towers ?
The three files are working perfectly after unzing, here in my house.
Again, with 7Zip files, sometimes, you can't sure -exactly - which part is corrupted.

Did you try to "control" with 7zip your archives ??
Do you use the last stable version of 7 zip ?
do you have WinRAR ?
WinRAR is really a powerful zip program : it can handle RAR files, of course, and 7zip as well.

dvmitto
09-21-2012, 01:04 PM
Well, it's the fellowship of the ring. I'm pretty sure no file is corrupt because the file size is right and yet everything is missing. I will try winrar later as i'm using my school computer (and what do you mean by "control"?)
ps: thx for the quick reply (:

lonelywolf
09-21-2012, 03:02 PM
when you place your mouse on the zip file :
right click, 7zip, control archive.
Sometimes you can have a good information about the faulty zip file.. sometimes you can't be sure ... that's the trouble with 7zip vs RAR. But WinRAR is a shareware, so...

Don't be too confident with the size of the file : sometimes the physical size is correct but it's not working ..
The best thing with download files is a SFVfile : it checks the CRC32 (Cyclic Redundancy Check) of all the files.

dvmitto
09-21-2012, 03:37 PM
Thank you so much, but still using school computer so it'll be later until i can install the things you mention. Thanks lone wolf

PS: the SFVfile you mention, I searched it up, should it go with the fotr zip files or is that something i can download from the internet?

lonelywolf
09-21-2012, 06:36 PM
you need to search SFV MD5 with google

To be clear, all the pirate releases use this kind of files : here is the explanation :
when you zip a VERY large file (say.. an ISO file for example) into a great number of zip parts, you can check and track corrupted zip files very easily, with the help of your SFV file.
That way you can re download only the "corrupted" zip file.

You need to install a sotware which is able to read / create sfv files.
When you have installed your sfv program, then :
You select your Zip or RAR files and then create your **.sfv file.
With this file you can control your zip files.

Most of the time, people who are sharing large files use WinRAR AND an SFV software.
Why WinRAR ? Because when you zip your file, you have a very interesting option called "recovery record".
Your Zip files will be "fatter", but you can "re construct" a faulty RAR archive .. ! (well most of the time .. but it saves my *** many time..)

I'm using a SFV software all the time, when I need to transfer files from my computer, to portable HDD, memory usb, etc.
You can find a LOT of programs reading and creating SFV files (sharwres and freewares), but my favourite is QuickSFV (Official QuickSFV Home Page (http://www.quicksfv.org)).
it's FREE and very fast.

Most of the time these control files are SFV or MD5.
Of course, QuickSFV can read / create these 2 types of control files.
NB : Careful on Windows 7, you can't create more than one sfv file at time (or you will crash explorer.exe ....)

I recently watched the extended editions of all three films back to back, and this has to be the greatest soundtrack i've ever heard. I've rarely heard music that fits a film SERIES so perfectly, let alone individual films. Makes me super-psyched for The Hobbit, Part 1 in December... :)

Anyway, not sure about the original links, but I want to express my sincerest graditude to holunder2 and all those providing assistance for this awesome resource. Just finished with the FOTR, extracted it, and listened to it. Amazing music... and in superb quality too...

With regards to the above post, it seems that the freakshare links disappear sporadically. Not sure what that's about, but i'm glad for when they work. depositfile links always work, with the usual waiting gap, so that's good.

EDIT: I actually think that the freakshare links display as the file not being there when you exceed the daily download limit. So they are still there...

They aren't working for me, and I haven't used fs in over a week.

It's that simple: The Freakshare files begin to disappear because no one downloads them in time. The DepositFile links work longer because I created an account. Page 7 for my links is no good place, I have contacted @Porko_Rosso to take them and put them in his initial post, but so far no reaction.

Yeah, i've realised this since my last post edit. It makes sense, but oddly I was able to get the ROTK part 10 download from freakshare earlier. I think that and maybe one or two of the earliest parts for ROTK were still active. I skipped ahead to part 10 in case it disappeared, and now i'm on part 7 with depositfiles. Still, as long as the depositfiles links are working, I will be very happy. :)

Incidentally, I came across the LOTR symphony FLACs in another thread in this forum - no idea if they are in this forum. Anyway, I had not intended to get them, but the promise of the best parts from all three films in 6 tracks was very tantalising... I played the first movement, and heard an awesome piece of music that I didn't even recognise from the films, but which fit extremely well. I highly recommend the symphony to anyone who doesn't already have it!

EDIT: Found the rarities archive on page 7 also. Another great upload holunder2, cheers!!! I've just realised that the opening to the symphony I was talking about is the opening to the alternative prologue score! Also listened to some other rarities such as elanor (alternate). Awesome music, but I think that I prefer the instrumental use of 'Into to the West' when Sam picks up Frodo. I shiver everytime, no jokes...

My HDD had problems and lost most of my music including the complete score of the Lord of the Rings. Can someone please re-upload "Music from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Howard Shore / Prague Philharmonic Orchestra 2004) Score" and "The Lord Of The Rings: The Rarities Archive (Howard Shore 2010) Score" please! Hi there! For some reason, the links to oron.com aren't working for me. Is it just me facing this problem or is it down for everyone else as well? Can I trouble anyone to reupload the Complete Recordings for all three films to MF/4S/RS in mp3 format? It would be much, much appreciated! Thank you so much in advance! ♥

It is because of download limitations recently imposed by rapidshare.

Newbie here,

Can anyone tell me how I can play the hi-res, multi-channel FLAC files on my home theater system? For now I can play them only on my laptop.

My player is an Oppo BDP83 which can play SACD and DVD-A discs.

Do these files need to be authored as one of these disc types? Or is there another way?
