So far, we know that Lightning, Tifa and Kain are in, and there will be a new assist system to let you call in a ally during the fight.
I don’t know why you think it’s soon. The original launched in Japan in December 2008. And this one probably won’t launch until at least mid-2011.
As for me, I just hope they give it a port to the PS3 or something. I can’t get used to that analog thing on the PSP… Hopefully, they’ll let us use the D-pad for movement like they did in the original.
But alas, as long as they include Basch from XII and give him and Gabranth some story I’ll be glad 🙂
If a spin off title got a response like Dissidia, I’d make a sequel, only makes sense.
Also I wouldn’t call Lightning, Kain and Tifa random characters, random would be if they threw in some characters from tactics or crystal chronicles or something.
I do think FFXII will be getting a new character, apparantly Vaan’s VA said he’s working on a new FF title, so it’s possible that one is Duodecim, I’ve heard fans dreading Vaan’s involvement but I never played XII so I can’t tell if Vaan being in is bad or good.
Also, there’s been a stage from XII and II added, and a new stage almost guarantees a new character, so expect someone from II to join the mix.
Not EVERY FF will get an addition sadly, this is due to the constraints of the PSP, clearly indication this needs a PS3 port in the future.
Also, everyone will have three costumes, plus downloadable ones, I’ve seen a KH costume for Cloud and a costume for Lightning that makes her looks like some chick from Parasite Evil (I think).

Don’t get me wrong guys, it’s not that I don’t want to see another Dissidia (in fact I’m planning on buying the first one as soon as I get my PSP back from my friend) it’s just that from my perspective – something that really doesn’t mean much in the whole grand scheme and I could be totally wrong here – the concept was to bring not only all of the main heroes and villains together to celebrate the series’ lineage, but also bring all of the series’ fans together (i.e. fans of one game and fans of another game to maybe come to appreciate all of them), rather than start a whole new franchise based on the entirety of the games that overshadows what the original one was meant to be about.
And I guess now that I think about it I agree; it’s not exactly ‘too soon’. I’m just getting old too quickly and time seems to pass way too fast these days.
Really, any character from XII appearing would be a bit weird considering that none of them have a distinct fighting style, with the excpetion of a few Quickenings (special attacks of a sort). Everyone can wield the same weapons and use the same magic. The only thing that changes is their animation, and even that only slightly.
This post is golden! I never even considered that, Smarty; maybe that’s why Square didn’t give XII as much emphasis in the original Dissidia. Much as I love XII, from what I hear the story gets pretty off-key so they really don’t have one solid character to work with as the lead role, nor much story to integrate either.
🙂

Actually, I think you mean FFXI and XII, as FFII already had a stage included in the original Dissidia (Pandemonium), where as XI and XII didn’t. Either way, I’m wondering what stage FFXI would have – probably Castle Zvahl’s throne room (which would be appropriate if the Shadowlord was included as ‘FFXI’s enemy’ this time). But I guess we’ll see.
As for the DLC for the next game, I admit I’m a little puzzled at the choice of ‘third’ costumes for Cloud and Lighting – I would have thought his Shinra trooper uniform from the original game would have been more appropriate (and it’s not like they don’t already have a 3D model of it – having appeared earlier in Ehrgeiz and FFVII: Crisis Core). And Lightning doing an Aya Brea cosplay? WTF?
Still, I’m just glad SE is giving us a second Dissidia, even if it is just mindless fanservice (not a bad thing – sometimes we need a little mindless fun to relax with). 🙂

Um, no, I don’t mean FFXI, I mean FFII, there’s a new stage from II in there (go watch the trailer) and it’s beleived a new stage most likely suggests a new character from that series.
Also btw, there’s the three costumes + the DLC ones, so those aren’t their third costumes.
You’re right about the extra DLC though – those extra ones apparently require separate purchase of the new KH and Parasite Eve games currently in development as well to download (at first I thought they were going to be the actual ‘third’ costumes for those characters). So I stand corrected on that point. 🙂
That Prima Vista stage fro FF9 seems to be in because of simularities to a stage seen in the trailer to the theatre ship in FF9, not as obvious as the new pandemonium stage but yeah.
I’m intrigued as to how they’re going to create a storyline for this one. A second gathering is going to be difficult to concoct seeing as…………spoilers here………(I warned you now)………….Cosmos is dead. So I’m thinking that Duodecim is going to be a completely different ball game from the original; a totally different outlook so to speak.
I don’t know about you, but I would have preferred Zack instead of Tifa as the extra character in the FF VII slot, even though it’s not completely correct to have him there. The way I see it is that, if Cloud can have his alternative costume from AC in Dissidia, then we can have Zack. Imo only though, I know that it’s not exactly fair on the original game/ fans, but I started the FF VII compilation with Crisis Core; so there is a certain level of me being biased here. I also have to acknowledge that there is a disproportion when it comes to males and females in this game…….but I still would have preferred Zack :).
I’m pretty meh when it comes to extra stages. As long as one can navigate them without too much difficulty then I’m happy.
……and we’d better be able to use the directional buttons in Duodecim or else I’m fucked. I can’t manage the damn analogue stick at all (pet hate of mine).
Also what’s the verdict on extra music pieces being added in?
and ricard.
and i specially wish they include battle theme B, because its awesome
and here is a list of the confirmed music so far:
"Temple Chaos BGM" (FF1)
"The Castle Pandemonium BGM" (FF2)
"1 Battle" (FF3)
"1 Battle" (FF4)
"last battle" (FF5 )
"Battle 1" (FF6),
"JENOVA (undefined)" (FF7)
"Birth of God (undefined)" (FF7)
"Force your Way" (FF8)
"The Final Battle" (FF9)
"Flash" (FF13)
"Requiem of Birth" (FF13)
Umm yeah, I did a bit more research behind Duodecim the other day and saw what you mean. I didn’t know that it was a prequel when I wrote that previous post. Sorry, I should have looked into that point sooner.
At the moment I just can’t see how having Duodecim as a prequel is going to work exactly. I understand that the former game’s storyline made it immpossilble for a sequel but I still don’t see how a prequel can have more characters/ involvment from other worlds (ie. the world of FF XIII)/ and more content then it’s supposed sequel. Because of all the add ons, Duodecim will at least feel like a sequel……well, to me at least. Does this make any sense at all??????
Hummmm, some very good music choices slated there, what do you think?
Wait a minute, who is that blonde-haired girl Vaan’s shown talking to in that bottom image?
EDIT: apparently it’s meant to be Terra in a costume based on a little-known Amano artwork of her. And there I was hoping Celes was going to be a new addition. 🙁
It’ll be interesting having Vaan in this won’t it? I wonder how that will work out.
It’ll be interesting having Vaan in this won’t it? I wonder how that will work out.
Or any character from FFXII really. They don’t have a distinct fighting style or even weapons and magic unique to them. They only differences between are the quickenings (which Dissidia’s Gabranth certainly used)
Enkidoh: Yeah, Celes would be a great addition.
Pretty cool what they did with the costume anyway.
Well, we already know that Lightning has been added but I was just wondering if they were going to include anyone else from FF13?
I just hope that for FFXI, they pick a Mithra instead of that hyperactive and deranged lunatic of a Black Mage, Shantotto.
Amen to that! Can’t stand that laugh of her’s….you could peel paint with it!!!
Mithra is a good choice, at least she’s got style!!!
And sadly DH, according to successive Vana’diel Censuses tarutaru are the most popular character race in FFXI, so I doubt even more a mithra character will ever appear in a Dissidia game (other than Shantotto’s taunt toward Zidane in the original game, calling him a ‘male mithra’ because of his tail ;)). Not to mention mithra characters had the least bearing on FFXI’s storyline too sadly (especially Nanaa did little other than have a very minor role in a Windurst mission, even less a role than Shantotto had).
However, there is still the possibility of a FFXI villain appearing, even though nothing has been stated yet (my gil is on the Shadowlord – after all his battle theme Awakening appeared in the original game as an unlockable music track so it’s highly likely he’ll be throwing in his lot on Chaos’s side – which would also mean the ‘FFXI stage; would most likely be the Throne Room from Castle Zvahl, with the Shadowlord’s tomb in the background, making it resemble the Mission 6.2 BCNM fight in setting.)
But I guess we’ll find out in due course as more info is released.
TM: I love Shantotto in the first Dissidia too – especially once she’s been developed a bit. Her HP attacks are downright devastating, although some spells can be ‘reflected’ or even miss completely, and her Brave attacks really screw around with the player (Bio and Bind are just as frustrating here as they are in FFXI ;)).
As her EX Burst mode, although difficult at first, is a pushover once the trick to it is figured out (start at Flare and work your way down the Ancient Magic list quickly from there).
So I’m intrigued how SE are going to refine her abilities the second time around.
Incidentally, more Dissidia 012 news has been released:
Another FFVIII character steps up (although hopefully without leg-cramp!) (http://www.uffsite.net/news/456/ff8s-laguna-joins-the-fight-in-dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy.html) 😉
And, the World Map is now part of game play! (FFI’s World Map being featured) (http://www.uffsite.net/news/457/dissidia-duodecim-gets-a-proper-world-map.html)
Very interesting – I really like how the game is turning out (away from the ‘board-game/fighter’ hybrid and towards a more RPG-eqsue style, but still keeping withing the bounds of a fighter.) 🙂
Also yay for Laguna.
Looks like all we’re seeing so far are new heroes; hopefully a new hero and villain appear from each game, which means maybe Seifer will show up from VIII (it would only make perfect sense, after all).
DISSIDIA FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
Now Laguna’s confirmed, that automatically deconfirms ANYONE else from VIII

CC, it’s confirmed that there will only be one inclusion for each game that does get a new character and not all games will.
Now Laguna’s confirmed, that automatically deconfirms ANYONE else from VIII

Gunner or Summoner Yuna?
She’ll probably do the same thing Cecil does in the game "transform" back and forth. That’s just a guess.
Or maybe, like in X, she’ll have a choice of summons to take her place for EX mode. . . .
Mostly because Kain is supposed to be in it.
He was my favourite from IV. Not sure why though.
Also, Laguna? Oh man. That is going to be… interesting.
Vincent
Auron
Wakka
Rubicant
Gilgamesh
Cid from VII
Garnet/Dagger
Rikku (in X-2 form)
Seifer
Setzer
Edgar and/or Sabin
Luneth from DS III
Reno and/or Rude
Zack
Xande
Freija (hell, anyone from IX except Quina)
And last but not least, GENERAL LEO and/or CELES!!!
Xande? Oh man, you mean that guy from III?
I remember him in the DS remake! He was kinda creepy.
I wouldn’t mind him being in a Dissidia game though.
On second thought, he does get more screen time than Sephiroth (the REAL Sephiroth, not counting the clones).

I’m still hoping that the FFV representative will be the mighty GILGAMESH.
But I can’t complain; I love all the choices they made to bring into the character roster 🙂
I want Beatrix though but mainly cause we really need some villains in this, even thought Beatrix wasn’t really a hardcore villain in IX but then again neither was Jecht.

Additionally it seems there’s also going to finally be a FFXI battle arena for Dissida 012 as well – the Empyreal Paradox, which would suggest that there is a possibility that Promathia will end up being FFXI’s villain, being the location he’s fought at the end of the final CoP mission. Either way, my interest is definitely piqued. 🙂
Also, at the end of the Duodecim trailer at the 1st Production Department, you can hear someone saying "Long time no see Bartz" in Japanese. Then a Rift Portal opens up above Bartz and someone falls out.
I’m 99.9999% sure: GILGAMESH CONFIRMED
*celebrates*
Kain, Laguna & Vaan. This is awesome.
Pretty sure this game will ship on 2 UMD’s. It must be huge.
I got it for free cause I have a hacked PSP but lemme tell you, Lightning and Kain kick some serious ass man, especially lightning.
And yes, Gilgamesh is in, artwork of him was leaked (and there’s a trailer where you hear him talk to Bartz)
Shows Yuna in action too :naughty:
And, hmm, wonder who that is talking to Bartz at the end 🙂

Oh, and I saw something about Terra and Cloud being on Chaos’ side in this game :/
Also, I hope Kain’s English voice actor isn’t the same one as in the DS remake of FFIV.
Also, I hope Kain’s English voice actor isn’t the same one as in the DS remake of FFIV.
I’m not sure about Terra, but I heard Cloud and Tidus will be on Chaos’ side and Jecht will be with Cosmos.
Just wondering, will there be just one new character per FF?
I really wanted to see some Edge vs Rubicante.
The only games that could get inclusions which haven’t are VI and IX.
Also, XIII MAY get a second representative.
That’s his Holy Dragoon form from FF IV: After Years.
There’s a video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD22EDv7SpI&feature=related) but the quality is not very good
No word on the price or release date, however.
From what I heard, Terra was being controlled by Kefka’s Slave Crown, Cloud succumbed to Sephiroth manipulating the Jenova cells in him, and Tidus… I have no idea how they could explain his turn to the dark side. Unless SE uses some lame idea from FFX-2, making him become Shuyin or something equally ridiculous.
But then, this game is pretty much just fan-service anyway so the original games’ canon need no apply. 😉

I quite agree with these sentiments. Zack would have been cool. Frankly I hop Duodecim comes sooner rather than later; I getting sick of getting my ass whipped in Tekken
Not to mention the UMD format isn’t exactly the most highest-capacity format either, so there is bound to be limits on how many characters they can bring into the game (I presume this is also why FFI-III haven’t gained any new characters this time around).
Is it all pre-order bonuses, or will it be avalible on the PS Store?
get hype!
FANBOY REACTION INITIATED
btw there were magazine scans of Gilgamesh not too long ago, looks like that’s gonna be it for this game in terms of characters.
And apparently, there is a backwards-save feature in which you can upload your save data from the original Dissidia so I have extra reason to want to play it. ^^
EDIT: Gilgamesh is old news Johnny, but it’s still cool anyway. 😉
Knew this year was going to be a good one for games.
There’s gameplay of Prishe and Gilgamesh on youtube btw.
Well, I reckon it’ll be worth the wait. So we all gotta be patient!

I can’t find the freakin’ pictures now, but I’ve seen Gilgamesh’s renders in the game. He has outfits including the one from FFV (as in, his sprite [and he was even posed the same way in render-form in the pic I saw]), from VIII (when he tries to oust Seifer), and the standard is the one based on Amano’s original artwork of him.
HOLD ON LEMME FIND THE PICS

Gilgamesh/Dissidia – The Final Fantasy Wiki has more Final Fantasy information than Cid could research (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh/Dissidia)

But then, that wouldn’t work because I remember Nomura stating that it’s the goal of the development team to have each character ‘unique’, with their own unique abilities and attacks. As Zack is essentially ‘Proto-Cloud’, it would be almost impossible to make his abilities different to Cloud. This is the same reason why Vivi wasn’t included in Dissidia too – being a Black Mage his role is already effectively taken by Shantotto from FFXI, making him basically surplus.
Not to mention the UMD format isn’t exactly the most highest-capacity format either, so there is bound to be limits on how many characters they can bring into the game (I presume this is also why FFI-III haven’t gained any new characters this time around).
……..SPOILERS…………..
I would just like to tidy up this little foopa I made a while back. While I was working yesterday I finally figured out why Zack couldn’t (and will never) become an extra character in the Dissidia series. Basically it’s because Cloud would probably have an appaplexy if he saw him, ’cause well, ain’t he supposed to be dead? I just can’t believe I was that stupid to have forgotten something so OBVIOUS. Though all of Enki’s reasons are also applicable, it’s the fact that he has kicked the bucket that makes it all so final.
Another thing about Zack, I don’t know why they don’t make him a third costume for Cloud personally. Maybe if they want to add his voice too. And if they REALLY want to, make him a seperate character in Cloud’s third costume, replacing Cloud, and give him his own story. I think that third suggestion is really rocking the boat though.
Also, a new form of Chaos called Desperado Chaos is playable after beating him in the "000" story mode. The original Chaos is still only fightable as a boss or in Quick Battle – that is, he isn’t playable.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DUODECIM’S STORY AHEAD
Kain, Tifa, Vaan, Yuna, Laguna, and Lightning all die at the end from a Manikin zerg rush. Being killed by a Manikin erases your existence. Now do you know why they aren’t in Dissidia 1?
Besides, the story is really just a framing device for explaining how Cloud can go one on one against Squall to decide who’s the most emo anyway. 😉
I’ve played as all the characters, haven’t touched story though since I don’t want to spoil myself before the english release (used an online save to get Gilgamesh, Prishe and Desperado without doing story stuff).
I started uploading vids:

Also, preordered the European Collector’s Edition earlier today from my local EB Games. The 24th can’t come quick enough. :p
Retarded date for a demo though, only reason they’ll get away with that late release is cause you need it if you want the Aerith Assist.
Although a week isn’t too big a deal, I wonder exactly what the cause of the delay is? (most likely Sony are dragging their feet again with localisation). Still, at least it’s still coming either way. 🙂
so naturally I grabed it and am playing it right now.
And just finished all the story scenarios.
Still, it’s nowhere the waste compared to Prologus. $5 AU for what is just an extra side story and an extra assist character (Aeris) who only appears for barely a second at a time (and can’t even be used in story mode?)? What a rip-off SE. ><
Ah well, I’m still enjoying the game immensely. Finished Duodecium’s story mode, and unlocked both Prishe and Gilgamesh (man, Gil’s dialogue cracked me up! :D). I don’t feel like doing the original game’s story mode again at the moment, but I will get around to it eventually (especially as there was tons of equipment I missed the first time). Either way, it’s going to keep me busy for a while. 🙂
