I've liked the creepiness of this music for a long time. In the DVD/Blu-Ray commentary to the film, Coppola told a long story about how Kilar wrote a tiny amount of music and said, "That's all folks." Coppola then said how the recorded music was stripped to individual tracks and recombined in the movie to make up for this. Does anybody know if there is any truth to this? Listening to the whole album -- yes, it's repetitive, but after dozens of listenings, it doesn;t seem to me like the same thing remixed four diiferent times or whatever . . .

It's true... but it's not the "same thing" remixed a bunch of times. There were a number of pieces recorded (maybe 10? It's been a while...) but those pieces were stripped down and utilized in different manners to make the entire score.
I will say this though, I don't think Mr. Coppola is correct in saying that the album contains all the music recorded for the film. The final action piece (or anything even remotely close to it) is nowhere to be found on this disc... That piece, to me, would help in making this score seem "complete", at least in terms of music recorded for the film.
p.s., by final action piece I mean the music that underscores the hunters chasing Dracula as he races back to his castle.

Quite a funny story. Isn't it way cool to came up with something and to say he's finished. LOL

I didn't know the action piece you mentioned isn't on CD, so I hope we'll catch that missing track someday in the future (but, to be honest, I'm not too enthusiastic about it).

I searched for that "Criterium edition" but I just found "Blood for Dracula" which has nothing to do with Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula".
